Tourism In Mizoram
Mizoram is a state in the northeast of India. Mizoram is considered by many as a beautiful place due to its landscape and pleasant climate. There have been many attempts to increase revenue but the lack of amenities makes it a hurdle for tourists. However, the State continues to promote itself and many projects have been initiated. The tourism ministry continues to maintain or upgrade its tourist lodges throughout the state. Foreign tourists are required to obtain an 'inner line permit' under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order 1958 (India), special permit before visiting. The permit can be obtained from Indian missions abroad for a limited number of days or direct from Mizoram Government authorities within India. The state is rich in bird diversity, which has the potentiality to make it a major birding destination. Mizoram is a stronghold for Mrs. Hume's pheasant (''Syrmaticus humiae''). Reiek
Reiek is a mountain and tourist spot 29 km from Aizawl, Mizoram, India. It rests at an elevation of 1,465 metres overlooking Aizawl and offers a view of the surrounding valleys and hills. Lunglei
Lunglei (, locally ), formerly rendered Lungleh, is the second-largest town in Mizoram, Northeast India, northeastern India, situated in the south-central part of the state. The town served as the capital of British rule in the Lushai Hills, British South Lushai Hills from 1889 to 1898. It is situated 729 metres (2,392 feet) above sea level, on a ridge surrounded by hills. As of 2023, the town has an estimated population of 157,000. History Lungleh was the capital of South Lushai Hills for 10 years from 1880, as was Aizawl, Aijal for the North Lushai Hills. The two were united in 1898. Tuirihiau Falls
The Tuirihiau Falls are located south of Thenzawl in the Serchhip district in the Indian state of Mizoram. They are on the Vanva river near Buangpui and are sometimes mentioned together with the nearby Vantawng Falls. An unusual feature is that there are caves behind the Tuirihiau waterfalls, allowing people to see them from behind. Mary Winchester (Zoluti)
Mary Winchester, or Zolûti to Mizos later Mary Innes Howie, (1865–1950) was a Scottish girl who was captured and held hostage by the Mizo tribes of Mizoram, India, in 1871, and rescued by the British expedition in 1872. This historic event marked the beginning of British rule in Mizoram that lasted until Indian independence in 1947. Indirectly, it also paved the way for Christian missionaries to introduce Christianity among the Mizos. Early life Mary Winchester was born to James Winchester. Vantawng Falls
The Vantawng Khawhthla is located south of Thenzawl in Serchhip district in the Indian state of Mizoram. It is the highest uninterrupted waterfall in Mizoram. It is about away from Aizawl. The falls Vantawng Khawhthla or Vantawng Falls is the highest and most spectacular of the waterfalls and cascades in the fast-flowing rivers of Mizoram. It is located in Vanva River near Thenzawl and is named after Vantawnga, who was said to be an excellent swimmer.
