Three-cushion Billiards
Three-cushion billiards, also called three-cushion carom, is a form of carom billiards. The object of the game is to the off both while contacting the at least three times before contacting the second object ball. A point is scored for each successful carom. In most shots the cue ball hits the object balls one time each, although hitting them any number of times is allowed as long as both are hit. The cue ball may contact the cushions before or after hitting the first object ball. It does not have to contact three different cushions as long as it has been in contact with any cushion at least three times in total. History Three-cushion dates to the 1870s, and while the origin of the game is not entirely known, it evolved from one-cushion billiards, which in turn developed from straight rail billiards for the same reason that balkline also arose from straight rail. Three-Cushion World Cup
The Three-Cushion World Cup is an international tournament series in three-cushion billiards, which is held every year since 1986 between three and ten times a year. History The World Cup was founded in 1985 by German Werner Bayer, a carom billiards enthusiast and patron. He called the association "Billiards World Cup Association" (BWA) and in 1986 the first tournament was held in Paris. As a patron he had excellent contact to sponsors, and quickly the tournament grew into a popular meeting place for players and spectators. At the time, the World-Cup had one of the highest monetary prizes. Between 1986 and 1989, the prize money per tournament was approximately Deutsche Mark, DM, with the winner receiving DM. Straight pool, which is also called 14.1 continuous and 14.1 rack, is a Cue sports, cue sport in which two competing players attempt to as many s as possible without playing a . Eddy Merckx (born 4 September 1968 in Reet, Belgium) is a Belgian professional three-cushion billiards player. Career Season 2006/07 In the year 2006, he beat Nikos Polychronopoulos 3–1 to win the world title in three cushions billiards. In 2007, he added the European title in Salon de Provence in France, by beating the reigning champion Frédéric Caudron. Season 2011/12 On 8 October 2011, while playing in the German Bundesliga in Duisburg, Merckx defeated Won Kang 50–6 in six innings, a world record. The inning breakdown was 4-9-26-7-0-4. Torbjörn Blomdahl (born 26 October 1962 in Gothenburg) is a Swedish people, Swedish professional carom billiards (and to a lesser extent pocket billiards, pool) player from Helsingborg, Sweden who plays for FC Porto (billiards), FC Porto. He is a seven time World Champion in three-cushion billiards, having won the UMB World Three-cushion Championship, titles in 1987, 1988, 1991, 1992, 1997, 2015 and in 2019. Dingeman Jacobus Johannes "Dick" Jaspers (pronounced yas-pers) (born 23 July 1965) is a Dutch professional carom billiards player who specializes in the three-cushion event. Early life Jaspers started playing billiards when he was three years old in the pub his parents ran in his home town. Between 1974 and 1980 he participated in the Dutch Youth Championships before making the move to the senior level. In this period he got lessons from Andre Gulickx and Tony Schrauwen Professional career Jaspers became a professional billiard player in 1986 after seeing Raymond Ceulemans and Nobuaki Kobayashi on live television during their World Cup final in Valkenburg.
