ARTIST
An artist is a person engaged in an activity related to creating art, practicing the arts, or demonstrating the work of art. The most common usage (in both everyday speech and academic discourse) refers to a practitioner in the visual arts only. However, the term is also often used in the show business, entertainment business to refer to Actor, actors, Musician, musicians, Singing, singers, Dance, dancers and other Performing arts#Performers, performers, in which they are known as ''Artiste'' instead. ''Artiste'' (French) is a variant used in English in this context, but this use has become rare. The use of the term "artist" to describe Writer, writers is valid, but less common, and mostly restricted to contexts such as critics' reviews; "author" is generally used instead. Agneta Andersson (artist)
Agneta Andersson (born 1958) is a Swedish Sámi artist and art educator. She was born in Kiruna and received a MFA in textile art from the University of Gothenburg. She pursued further studies at Umeå University and Luleå University of Technology in art theory and history, project management and various artistic media. She works in sculpture as well as producing two dimensional works in textiles, glass and metal. She has taught art in high school as well as giving workshops and courses in the visual arts field. She has received a number of commissions for art in public spaces including the in Jokkmokk Jokkmokk () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Jokkmokk Municipality in Norrbotten County, provinces of Sweden, province of Lapland, Sweden, Lapland, Sweden, with 2,786 inhabitants in 2010. Julia Beck
Julia Beck (20 December 1853 – 21 September 1935) was a Swedish painter and calligrapher. Biography Beck was born in Stockholm, Sweden, the daughter of Franz Beck, a bookbinder. She was first educated at the sloyd school (later Konstfack) in Stockholm from 1869–1872. She then studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts (1872–1878) and later at the Académie Julian in Paris (1883–1884), where her teachers included Léon Bonnat and Jean-Léon Gérôme. Afterwards, she settled in France, where she was to spend most of the rest of her life. For a time she rented a studio in Paris with Harriet Backer, Hildegard Thorell, and Anna Munthe-Norstedt, and she also spent time at the Grez-sur-Loing art colony. In 1886, she became a member of Nya Idun, a Swedish women's association. As a professional artist, she specialized in portraits for financial reasons, and she was one of the few Swedish women artists of her generation able to support herself through her art. John Bauer (illustrator)
John Albert Bauer (4 June 1882 – 20 November 1918) was a Swedish painter and illustrator. His work is concerned with landscape and mythology, but he also composed portraits. He is best known for his illustrations of early editions of ''Among Gnomes and Trolls, Bland tomtar och troll'' (''Among Gnomes and Trolls''), an anthology of Swedish folklore and fairy tales. Bauer was born and raised in Jönköping. At 16 he moved to Stockholm to study at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. While there he received his first commissions to illustrate stories in books and magazines, and met the artist Ester Ellqvist, whom he married in 1906. He traveled throughout Lapland (Sweden), Lappland, Germany and Italy early in his career, and these cultures deeply informed his work. Signe Barth
Signe Magdalena Barth née Pettersson (16 June 1895, Uddevalla — 15 March 1982, Stockholm) was a Swedish painter and art teacher. After studying in Stockholm and Copenhagen, she moved to Paris in 1920 where she completed her education, married and settled until 1936. After returning to Sweden, she ran an art college in Stockholm from 1940 to 1959. Her paintings include motifs in oils from Paris and Stockholm as well as landscapes from the west coast of Sweden. Early life and education Born in Uddevalla on 16 June 1895, Signe Magdalena Pettersson was the daughter of the high-ranking government official Fredrik Emil Pettersson (1892–1907) and his wife Vendela Kristina von Essen (1853–1919). She was the family's youngest child. Inge Bagge
Inga Bagge (24 July 1916 – 3 May 1988) was a Swedish sculptor and painter. Her art education started in the mid-1930s under Leoo Verde at the ABF school in Linköping and in the early 1950s included the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. Consisting of a variety of unconventional materials, her early works attracted attention and acclaim at her 1958 début exhibition at the Burén Gallery in Stockholm. She went on to create even more surprising works, many of which can be seen in public places as well as in a number of museums. One of her most significant, the huge two-dimensional ''Livsträdet'' (Tree of Life, 1975), can be seen in Stockholm's Moderna Museet. Bagge also taught at Konstskolan Idun Lovén. Barbro Bäckström
Barbro Agneta Bäckström née Erhardsson (6 December 1939 – 8 February 1990) was a Swedish sculptor who is remembered for her depictions of fragments of the Nude (art), human body, frequently in the form of undulating cloth-like statues or as reliefs of nude women. Her larger outdoor works are in bronze or iron while those displayed indoors are generally reliefs in wire mesh. Many of her works have been exhibited at the Malmö Art Museum.
