Singapore is governed as a unitary state without provinces or states. However, for the purposes of administration and urban planning, it has been subdivided in various ways throughout its history. The Kebun Baru Single Member Constituency is a single member constituency in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. It is managed by Ang Mo Kio Town Council. History Kebun Baru Constituency was carved from the now-defunct Ang Mo Kio Single Member Constituency (then known as Ang Mo Kio Constituency) in 1980. Hougang SMC
The Hougang Single Member Constituency is a single member constituency (SMC) located in the north-eastern area of Singapore. The current Member of Parliament is Dennis Tan from the Workers' Party (WP). History The constituency was first formed prior to the 1988 general election and was won by the People's Action Party (PAP) in its debut. However, PAP's representation of Hougang SMC would only last three years, when it lost the seat to the Workers' Party (WP) candidate Low Thia Khiang after an almost 12% swing during the 1991 general election. In the 2006 general election, then- Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong was tasked with helping the PAP to win back the two opposition wards of Hougang SMC and Potong Pasir SMC, the former of which was promised a $100 million upgrading plan. The Aljunied Group Representation Constituency is a five-member group representation constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern and eastern region of Singapore. It consists of a large part of Hougang (excluding Hougang SMC), Paya Lebar, Serangoon Gardens, the southern half of Serangoon North as well as a portion of Bedok.
