Staphylininae
Staphylininae are a subfamily of rove beetles (family (biology), family Staphylinidae). They contain the typical rove beetles with their long but fairly robust blunt-headed and -tipped bodies and short elytra, as well as some more unusually-shaped lineages. Systematics As it seems, the Staphylininae are part of a large clade together with the subfamilies Euaesthetinae, Leptotyphlinae, Megalopsidiinae, Oxyporinae, Paederinae, Pseudopsinae, Scydmaeninae, Solieriinae, Steninae, and the extinct Protactinae which are only known from fossils. The numerous Staphylininae genera are divided into six Tribe (biology), tribes, listed below along with some notable genera. However, a scientific study in 2020 proposed moving all tribes except Staphylinini to other subfamilies and raising several of Staphylinini's subtribes to tribal level. This would result in a new total of twelve tribes: Acylophorini, Afroquediini, Amblyopinini, Antimerini, †Baltognathini, Cyrtoquediini, Erichsoniini, Hypt ...

Diochus Electrus
''Diochus electrus'' is an extinct species of rove beetle in genus ''Diochus'', the only definitive fossil species in subfamily Staphylininae. The species is known only from the middle Eocene, Lutetian, Lutetian stage Baltic amber found in the Blaue Erde deposits, Baltic region, Northern Europe. History and classification ''Diochus electrus'' is known only from one fossil, the holotype, number "KU-NHM-ENT, B-244". It is a single complete adult female preserved as an inclusion in a specimen of clear orange amber. The fossil was recovered from an outcrop of the Blaue Erde deposits which contain the fossil resins in the Baltic region. The type specimen is currently preserved in the paleoentomology, Division of Entomology at the University of Kansas, University of Kansas Natural History Museum located in Lawrence, Kansas, USA. ''Diochus electrus'' was first studied by Stylianos Chatzimanolis of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Michael S. Engel of the University of Ka ...

It was first described by Malcolm Cameron to the tribe Diochini, but in 2020 moved to its own tribe ''Coomaniini''. The species is found in Vietnam and Sabah, Malaysia. The elongate 5 mm beetle is shining black with antennae and legs reddish-yellow. The subtriangual head narrower than the thorax. Rather short antennae. Elytra as long and as broad as the thorax. Rove Beetle
The rove beetles are a family (biology), family (Staphylinidae) of beetles, primarily distinguished by their short elytra (wing covers) that typically leave more than half of their abdominal segments exposed. With over 66,000 species in thousands of genera, the group is one of the largest families in the beetle order, and one of the largest families of organisms. It is an ancient group that first appeared during the Middle Jurassic based on definitive records of fossilized rove beetles, with the Late Triassic taxon ''Leehermania'' more likely belonging to Myxophaga. They are an ecologically and morphologically diverse group of beetles, and commonly encountered in terrestrial ecosystems. One well-known species is the devil's coach-horse beetle (''Ocypus olens''). For some other species, see List of rove beetle (Staphylinidae) species recorded in Britain, list of British rove beetles. Anatomy As might be expected for such a large family, considerable variation exists among the spe ...
