Sport In Bristol
Bristol has a number of notable professional sports teams and a large number of active amateur sports clubs. There are also large numbers of participants in individual sports. The city has two Football League clubs: Bristol City F.C., who play in the second tier, and Bristol Rovers F.C., who play in the third tier. Gloucestershire C.C.C., Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has its headquarters in the city. Bristol Bears are currently in Premiership Rugby. Bristol City Council operates a number of sports centres and swimming pools. The city has hosted the 2001 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships and stage finishes and starts of the Tour of Britain cycle race. Bristol Half Marathon
The Great Bristol Half Marathon is an annual road running event held on the streets of Bristol, UK. The route is at sea level and starts on Anchor Road outside We The Curious. Participants make their way toward Hotwells before heading under the Clifton Suspension Bridge and along the Portway toward Sea Mills before returning the same way then navigating around Cumberland Basin then along Spike Island before crossing Prince Street Bridge, circling Queen Square then heading to Castle Park via St Mary Redcliffe and Temple Circus. The final mile and a half take place in the Old City and Bristol City Centre before crossing the finish line back at Anchor Road. The runner's village is located at Millennium Square. South Gloucestershire
South Gloucestershire is a unitary authority area in the ceremonial county of Gloucestershire, South West England. Towns in the area include Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Kingswood, Thornbury, Filton, Patchway and Bradley Stoke. The southern part of its area falls within the Greater Bristol urban area surrounding the city of Bristol. South Gloucestershire was created in 1996 to replace the Northavon district of the abolished county of Avon. Bristol Storm Basketball Club
Bristol Storm are currently a juniors focused British Basketball Club based in the city of Bristol, England. Storm compete in multiple leagues affiliated with Basketball England, including local league West England Basketball Association (WEBBA), Southwest Jr Regional League, and Basketball England Jr National League. As of 2023 the club currently runs a total of nine teams including ages U12s, U14s, U16s, U18s, and a women's team. Storm has also partnered witBristol Met Mambasto provide girls basketball as our sister affiliated program. The team currently play across multiple venues around the city due to the size of the club and lack of facilities in the area, but our home court is currently based out of St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School. It forms levels 2 to 5 on the British basketball pyramid, in line with the Scottish Basketball Championship, sitting directly below the top tier competition, Super League Basketball. The Bristol Hurricanes are a basketball club, based in the city of Bristol in the south-west of England. British Basketball League
The British Basketball League (BBL) was a men's professional basketball sports league, league in Great Britain. Since its establishment in 1987 the BBL represented the highest level of basketball competition within the United Kingdom. The organisation that operated the competition, Basketball League Limited, folded in July 2024 after the British Basketball Federation terminated its operating license. It was succeeded as the top-level men's basketball competition with Super League Basketball. The Bristol Flyers are an English professional basketball team based in the city of Bristol. The Flyers compete in the Super League Basketball, after promotion from the English Basketball League in 2014. The British Baseball Federation (BBF) is the national governing body of baseball within the United Kingdom. Organised modern baseball has been played in the United Kingdom since the first baseball league began in 1890, with a succession of different governing bodies in place over that time.
