Special Operations Command (Singapore)
The Special Operations Command (SOC) is a specialist tactical unit of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) specialising in riot control and high-threat incidents. It was formed on 10 September 1992 to unify specialist units into a single strategic reserve force that the regular officers need to call upon in any contingency plan and serious case of public disorder. The current commander of the SOC is Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Arthur Law Kok Leong and the deputy commander is Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Koh Tee Meng. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) is the national and principal Police, law enforcement agency responsible for the prevention of crime and law enforcement in the Republic of Singapore. It is the country's lead agency against organised crime; human and weapons trafficking; cyber crime; as well as economic crimes that goes across domestic and international borders, but can be tasked to investigate any crime under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Singapore), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and is accountable to the Parliament of Singapore. The Police Coast Guard (PCG) is a division of the Singapore Police Force that combines the functions of marine police and coast guard in Singapore. ''True Files'' (Simplified Chinese, Chinese: 真实档案) is an English language television docu-drama telecast on Channel 5 (Singaporean TV channel), MediaCorp Channel 5, with each episode (except the last episode of Season 3, ''The Unsolved'') re-enacting major court proceedings, mostly of murder, in Singapore. When the inaugural season was telecast in 2002, its first episode was re-slotted to be telecast later, when numerous public feedback was received by the station complaining that it was too graphic after watching trailers for the pilot episode. The show was also pushed back to a 10 p.m. time slot from the fourth episode onwards as a result. Nonetheless, the hype helped the show to enjoy favourable viewership ratings. Mount Vernon ( Chinese: 翡珑山; ) is a small hill in central Singapore west of Potong Pasir and north of MacPherson Estate. Officially named in 1956, it is circumscribed by Bartley Road, Upper Aljunied Road, Upper Serangoon Road, and Upper Paya Lebar Road. It is named after British Royal Navy Vice Admiral Edward Vernon (1684–1757) Features Mount Vernon is relatively undeveloped due to Mount Vernon Crematorium and Bidadari Cemetery being located on it. Lee Kim Lai
On 25 April 1978, Lee Kim Lai (), a Singaporean police officer, was robbed and murdered by three men for his service revolver. The Police National Service Full-time Light Strike Force (PNSF LSF) was part of Special Operations Command, a division of Singapore Police Force, located at Queensway Base in Singapore from 1998 to 2005.
