Sicydiinae
The Sicydiinae are a small subfamily (about 118 species) of freshwater gobies, with only nine genera. They are usually found in fast-moving mountain streams in tropical islands. They are characterized by highly developed rounded suction discs and an amphidromous lifecycle. Adult lengths range from . Some species are popular in the aquarium trade. Stiphodon
''Stiphodon'' is a genus of freshwater gobies. They inhabit swift, clear streams close to the sea and are found in large parts of Asia and Oceania. Many of the 36 currently recognized species have extremely restricted distributions on single islands or even single streams. These are small gobies with bodies squarish in cross section. A female of '' Stiphodon multisquamus'' with a standard length of 60.4 mm is the largest ''Stiphodon'' individual on record. Males of ''Stiphodon'' species are often vividly colored and a few species are occasionally sold in the aquarium trade, including '' Stiphodon ornatus'', '' Stiphodon atropurpureus'', '' Stiphodon maculidorsalis'', '' Stiphodon semoni'', and '' Stiphodon surrufus''. Species There are currently 37 recognized species in this genus: * '' Stiphodon alcedo'' Maeda, Mukai & Tachihara, 2012 – Described from Okinawa and Iriomote in the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, but these may be vagrant populations transported to Japan via the Kuros ...

Oxudercidae
Oxudercidae is a family of gobies which consists of four subfamilies which were formerly classified under the family Gobiidae. The family is sometimes called the Gobionellidae, but Oxudercidae has priority. The species in this family have a cosmopolitan distribution in temperate and tropical areas and are found in marine and freshwater environments, typically in inshore, euryhaline areas with silt and sand substrates. The Oxudercidae includes 86 genera, which contain around 600 species. This family has many species which occur in fresh water, and a number of species found on wet beaches and are able to live for a number of days out of water. The family includes the mudskippers, which include species that are able to move over land quite quickly. They have eyes located on the top of their heads on short stalks. They are capable of elevating or retracting them, and they can see well out of water. One species, '' Gillichthys mirabilis'', usually stays in the water, but surfaces to gu ...

Gobies
Gobiidae or gobies is a family of bony fish in the order Gobiiformes, one of the largest fish families comprising over 2,000 species in more than 200 genera. Most of gobiid fish are relatively small, typically less than in length, and the family includes some of the smallest vertebrates in the world, such as '' Trimmatom nanus'' and '' Pandaka pygmaea''. ''Trimmatom nanus'' are under long when fully grown, while the ''Pandaka pygmaea'' standard length is , with a maximum known standard length of . Some large gobies can reach over in length, but that is exceptional. Generally, they are benthic or bottom-dwellers. Although few are important as food fish for humans, they are of great significance as prey species for other commercially important fish such as cod, haddock, sea bass and flatfish. Several gobiids are also of interest as aquarium fish, such as the dartfish of the genus '' Ptereleotris''. Phylogenetic relationships of gobiids have been studied using molecular ...
