Badhan, Sanaag
Badhan (; ), also known as Baran is a city in the Sanaag region/state of Somaliland. Overview It was always in danger of flooding during the raining seasons. In 1971, the town was re-located near a borewell called Badhan and it has assumed the name ever since. The area was first settled in the 14th century by Somali people, Somali herdsmen from the Warsangali subclan of the Darod clan, as there was water available for their flocks. Badhan is also famous for being the stage of battles between the Dervishes of Mohammed Abdullah Hassan and the Sultanate of Warsangeli. Hassan, the leader of Dervishes, ordered the construction of a new grand fort in the city. Nowadays, the fort is in need of restoration, as time has worn it down. Badhan District
Badhan District () is a district located in the Sanaag country of Somaliland. Its capital is Badhan. Demographics The district is mainly populated by the Warsangali sub-division of the Harti Darod with a minority of the Abbas Muse sub-division of the Surre Dir. Timelines In 2005, a drought occurred in the Sanaag region, particularly affecting the Badhan district. In 2010 Somaliland presidential election, Badhan district received 734 votes for UDUB, 126 for KULMIYE, and 965 for UCID, totaling 1,825. Erigavo
Erigavo (, ), also spelled as Erigabo, is the capital and largest city of the Sanaag region of Somaliland. Etymology The name ''Ceerigaabo'' is made up of two parts: ''Ceeri'' which describes a place water collects, and ''gaabo'' (''gaaban''), meaning short or low. ''Ceeri'' can also be an abbreviation of ''ceeriyaan'', the Somali word for mist/fog. The name ''Ceerigaabo'' may refer to low-hanging mist covering the city. History The Erigavo settlement is several centuries old. The surrounding area was supposedly built by the Madigan Dir. Somaliland

Puntland
Puntland is an autonomous state that considers itself to be part of Somalia, despite not accepting the legitimacy of Somalia's current governing administration. It was formed in 1998, and was a federal member state of Somalia from its founding until 2024. Puntland is located northeast of Somalia and east of Somaliland. Its capital is the city of Garoowe in the Nugal region. The state had a population of 4,334,633 in 2016. Heis (, ) is a historic coastal town located in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. The town was important for trade and communication with the Somali interior and was used to export frankincense to Arabia. History Antiquity The site said to be identical with the ancient trading post of Mundus () that is described in the ''Periplus of the Erythraean Sea'', an anonymous account by a Greek Alexandrian salesman from the 1st century CE. A large collection of cairns of various types lie near the city. Excavations here have yielded pottery and sherds of Roman glassware from a time between the 1st and 5th centuries. Cal Madow
Cal Madow (also Calmadow, Al Madow, Al Medu, or Al Mado; ; ) is a mountain range in Somalia. It stretches across the area of Sanaag. Its peak sits at almost in Shimbiris, northwest of Erigavo.
