Samsunspor Kulübü, officially known as Samsunspor Football Club Joint Stock Company, or as Reeder Samsunspor due to sponsorship agreements, is a Turkish professional football club that competes in the Süper Lig. The club represents the football branch of Samsunspor Sports Club, and it attained professional status on June 30, 1965. In its early years, the football team played home matches at the City Stadium, but starting from the 1974–75 season, they moved to the 19 Mayıs Stadium. Since the 2017–18 season, the team has been hosting its matches at the newly built 19 Mayıs Stadium. Samsunspor is the most successful football club from Samsun. Basri Dirimlili (7 June 1929 – 14 September 1997), nicknamed Mehmetcik Basri, was a Turkish football player. Career Born in Dârstor, Romania (now Silistra, Bulgaria), Dirimlili began playing football for Eskişehir Demirspor. He transferred to Fenerbahçe in 1951. He played 26 times for Turkey and was a member of 1952 National Olympic Team and the 1954 FIFA World Cup team. The Balkans Cup was an international football competition for clubs from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey, and Yugoslavia. It was introduced in 1961 and was very popular in the 1960s (the 1967 final attracted 42,000 spectators), being the second most important international club competition for clubs from the region (after the European Champions' Cup in which the champions could play; the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup originally attracted few teams from the region as many did not organise domestic cups regularly and only Yugoslavia had significant representation in the Fairs Cup).
