Rwanda, officially the Republic of Rwanda, is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley of East Africa, where the African Great Lakes region and Southeast Africa converge. Banyarwanda
The Banyarwanda (, plural; , singular) are a Bantu peoples, Bantu Ethnolinguistic group, ethnolinguistic supraethnicity native to the northern African Great Lakes region, primarily the modern countries of Rwanda and Burundi. The Banyarwanda are also ethnic minorities in neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo, DR Congo, Uganda and Tanzania. Although the ethnic make-up of Burundi is similar to that of Rwanda, ''Banyarwanda'' is a political neologism used solely in Rwanda since the 1990s in order to mitigate ethnic division within the country following the Rwandan Civil War and the Rwandan genocide, 1994 Rwandan genocide. Kinyarwanda
Kinyarwanda, Rwandan or Rwanda, officially known as Ikinyarwanda, is a Bantu language and the national language of Rwanda. It is a dialect of the Rwanda-Rundi language that is also spoken in adjacent parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Uganda, where the dialect is known as Ikinyakore, Rufumbira, or ''Urufumbira''. Kinyarwanda is universal among the native population of Rwanda and is mutually intelligible with Kirundi, the national language of neighbouring Burundi. Kinyabwishya and Kinyamulenge are mutually intelligible dialects spoken in the North Kivu and South Kivu provinces of neighbouring DR Congo. Rwandan Cuisine
The cuisine of Rwanda is based on local staple foods produced by the traditional subsistence agriculture, subsistence-level agriculture and has historically varied across different areas. Background Rwandan staples include bananas, Plantain (cooking), plantains, pulse (legume), pulses, sweet potatoes, beans, and cassava (manioc). Historically this is particularly true of the Great Lakes Twa, Twa and the Hutus who hunted and farmed. Their diet was high in vegetables and lacked in animal protein due to the small amount of animal products consumed. The Tutsis were traditionally pastoralism, pastoralists and consumed a higher amount of milk and dairy products. The music of Rwanda encompasses Rwandan traditions of folk music as well as contemporary East African Afrobeat and Congolese ndombolo, and performers of a wide variety of Western genres including hip-hop, R&B, gospel music and pop ballads. Rwandan Genocide
The Rwandan genocide, also known as the genocide against the Tutsi, occurred from 7 April to 19 July 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War. Over a span of around 100 days, members of the Tutsi ethnic group, as well as some moderate Hutu and Great Lakes Twa, Twa, were systematically killed by Hutu militias. While the Constitution of Rwanda, Rwandan Constitution states that over 1 million people were killed, most scholarly estimates suggest between 500,000 and 662,000 Tutsi died, mostly men.
