Randwick Racecourse
Royal Randwick Racecourse is a racecourse for horse racing located in the Eastern Suburbs (Sydney), Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Randwick Racecourse is Crown Land leased to the Australian Turf Club and known to many Sydney racegoers as headquarters. The racecourse is located about six kilometres south-east from the Sydney Central Business District in the suburb of Randwick. The course proper has a circumference of 2224m with a home straight of 410m. On 14 October 2017, the inaugural running of The Everest was held at Royal Randwick. The Everest is the richest race in Australia and the richest turf race in the world with $15 million in prize money. Since 2014, Randwick hosts The Championships, a two-day season-ending meeting in April that offers over AUD$20 million in prize money. Australian Oaks
The Australian Oaks is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for three year old fillies at set weights run over a distance of 2,400 metres at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney in the autumn during the ATC Championships series. The Australian Oaks is the premier staying race for three-year-old fillies during the Sydney autumn racing carnival. Total prize money is A$1,000,000. History From inception in 1885 to 1894 this race was known as the AJC Oaks. The race was not held between 1895 and 1921, and when it was resumed it was known as the Adrian Knox Oaks Stakes until 1956. Since 1994 this race has been known as the AJC Australian Oaks and after the merger of the AJC and STC as the ATC Australian Oaks. Between 1922 and 1945 the race was held in January. The Inglis Sires', registered as the Sires Produce Stakes, is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-olds at Set Weights run over a distance of 1,400 metres at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, Australia in April during the ATC Championships Carnival. The prize money is $1,000,000. History The race was first run over one mile in 1867 and won by Glencoe. The race between 1905 and 1908 was run over 6 furlongs. This race forms the middle leg of the Australian two-year-old "Triple Crown", which also consists of the Golden Slipper Stakes (1,200m) and the Champagne Stakes (1,600m). Champagne Stakes (Australia)
The Champagne Stakes is an Australian Turf Club Group One, Group 1 Horse racing, horse race for two-year-old Thoroughbreds at set weights run at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, Australia over a distance of 1,600 metres during the Sydney Autumn Carnival. Prize money is A$1,000,000. History The inaugural running of the race was on the second day of the Australian Jockey Club Autumn Meet in 1861 as the fourth race on the six race card. The winner was Exeter trained by the famous trainer of the time Etienne L. de Mestre, Etienne de Mestre. The race became the premier AJC sprint race for two-year-olds for nearly 80 years.
