Suriname, officially the Republic of Suriname, is a country in northern South America, also considered as part of the Caribbean and the West Indies. The Third Way is a predominantly centrist political position that attempts to reconcile centre-right and centre-left politics by advocating a varying synthesis of Right-wing economics, right-wing economic and Left-wing politics, left-wing social policies. Alternative 2020 ( ''Dutch'': Alternatief 2020) (A20) has been a political party in Suriname since June 2019. History The party is led by the pastor of the Pentecostal Full Gospel Church Logos International in Paramaribo. The party is based on Christian norms and values. Reyme also says he is open to people from other religious groups, because all religions strive for the same thing. When he held the first information meeting of the party in the Logos church, his initiative was negatively received. The proclamation of Alternative 2020 took place on October 12, 2019, in the ballroom of the ; this meeting was very well attended. Javanese Surinamese are an ethnic group of Javanese people, Javanese and by extension Indonesians, Indonesian descent in Suriname. They have been present since the late 19th century, when their first members were selected as Indentured servitude, indentured laborers by the Dutch Empire, Dutch colonizers from the former Dutch East Indies. History After the abolition of slavery, the plantations in Suriname needed a new source of labor. In 1890, the influential Netherlands Trading Society, owner of the plantation Mariënburg in Suriname, undertook a test to attract Javanese people, Javanese Indentured servitude, indentured workers from the Dutch East Indies. Until then, primarily Indo-Surinamese, Indian indentured workers from British Raj, British India worked at the Surinamese plantations as field and factory workers. Gregory Rusland
Gregory Allan Rusland (born 9 November 1959) is a Surinamese politician. He served as Minister for Natural Resources between 2005 and 2010. In 2012 he became leader of the National Party of Suriname. Rusland has been a member of the National Assembly (Suriname), National Assembly since 2015. Early life and career Rusland was born on 9 November 1959 in Paramaribo. He studied agricultural production at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname and received a bachelor's degree in 1982. He continued his studies in the same field at the University of Florida and obtained an MSc in 1984. Rusland obtained a further PhD at the same institute in 1987. National Party Of Suriname
The National Party of Suriname (, NPS) is a political party in Suriname, founded in 1946, and since June 2012 led by Gregory Rusland. For a long time it was the largest ruling party in the country, and it has been in government for a total of over 40 years. Of the 16 general elections held in Suriname, the party or a coalition it was a leading part of finished in first place 11 times. The party tends to be more popular among Afro-Surinamese people, Afro-Surinamese and multiracial people. Ronnie Brunswijk
Ronnie Brunswijk (; born 7 March 1961) is a Surinamese politician, businessman, former rebel leader, footballer and convicted drug trafficker, who is serving as the current Vice President of Suriname. Brunswijk served as the personal bodyguard of military dictator Dési Bouterse in the early 1980s, but was discharged after asking for a raise, and denied back pay. In 1985, he formed the Surinamese Liberation Army, better known as the Jungle Commando. Brunswijk sought to gain recognition and rights for the Maroon minority of the interior, descendants of runaway African slaves who had established independent communities in the 17th and 18th centuries. Maroons
Maroons are descendants of Africans in the Americas and islands of the Indian Ocean who escaped from slavery, through flight or manumission, and formed their own settlements.
