Passenger Rail Transport In China
Passenger rail transport is one of the principal means of transport in the People's Republic of China, with rail passenger traffic exceeding 1.86 billion railway trips in 2011. It is operated by the China Railway Corporation (CR). The Spring Festival Travel Season is the peak railway travel season of the year. Passenger train classes and route identifiers Every train route has an identification number of two to five characters arranged by the Ministry of Railways. The first character can be alphabetic or numeric, while the second to fifth characters are all numeric. Trains are classified as either ''up'' (even-numbered) trains or ''down'' (odd-numbered) trains. Since the capital Beijing is treated as the focal point of the rail network, trains from Beijing are ''down'' services (e.g. the T109 from Beijing to Shanghai), while trains towards Beijing are ''up'' services (e.g. the T110 from Shanghai to Beijing). Zhuji
Zhuji () is a county-level city under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Shaoxing, in north-central Zhejiang province, China, located about south of Hangzhou. Handan
Handan is a prefecture-level city located in the southwest of Hebei province, China. The southernmost prefecture-level city of the province, it borders Xingtai on the north, and the provinces of Shanxi on the west, Henan on the south and Shandong on the east. An electric multiple unit or EMU is a multiple-unit train consisting of self-propelled carriages using electricity as the motive power. An EMU requires no separate locomotive, as electric traction motors are incorporated within one or a number of the carriages. An EMU is usually formed of two or more semi-permanently coupled carriages. However, electrically powered single-unit railcars are also generally classed as EMUs. The vast majority of EMUs are passenger trains but versions also exist for carrying mail. EMUs are popular on intercity, commuter, and suburban rail networks around the world due to their fast acceleration and pollution-free operation, and are used on most rapid-transit systems. Ministry Of Railways (China)
The Ministry of Railways (MOR) was a Ministries of the People's Republic of China, constituent department of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. The ministry was responsible for passenger services, regulation of the rail industry, development of the rail network and rail infrastructure in mainland China. The ministry was also in charge of the operations of China Railway which manages the railway bureaux and companies in mainland China. High-speed rail (HSR) is a type of rail transport network utilising trains that run significantly faster than those of traditional rail, using an integrated system of specialised rolling stock and dedicated railway track, tracks. G-series trains () are the fastest train services of China Railway. The trains usually run on dedicated high-speed railways with a designed top speed of . The prefix "G" is pronounced as ''Gao'' in the CR system, which is short for ''Gaosu Dongche'' meaning high-speed EMUs in Chinese. The numbering of G trains are defined by the prefix G followed by a train number. Compared with D-series trains, G-series trains are operated at higher speeds for either part or whole of the journey, and if compared to the D trains sharing the route, may have fewer stops and even overtake these D trains by giving the latter a longer stay at some stations. China Railway High-speed (CRH) is a high-speed rail service operated by China Railway in addition to China Railway's older Classic Rail services. The introduction of CRH series was a major part of the sixth national railway speedup, implemented on April 18, 2007. By the end of 2020, China Railway High-speed provided service to all provinces in China, and operated just under passenger tracks in length, accounting for about two-thirds of the world's high-speed rail tracks in commercial service. China has revealed plans to extend the HSR to 70,000 km by year 2035.
