North York Astros
The North York Astros were a Canadian soccer team that was founded in 1990. The team initially played in the National Soccer League. The team played their home games at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York, a district of the city of Toronto, Canada. The team's colours were orange and black. The club was originally named North York Atletico Argentina Soccer Club, and witnessed instant success in its initial stages. After a merger with North York Talons, and a relocation to Scarborough the team was eventually renamed the North York Astros. The Astros were a founding member of the Canadian National Soccer League's successor league the Canadian Professional Soccer League in 1998. Esther Shiner Stadium is a multi-purpose outdoor sports facility in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the former city of North York, on the north-west corner of Bathurst Street, Toronto, Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue, Finch Avenue West. Birchmount Stadium is a multi-purpose outdoor sports facility in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located near Kingston Road and Birchmount Road in the former city of Scarborough. Its original capacity was 6,345, and it was built for what was then the Borough of Scarborough. The stadium plays host to many amateur sporting events including football, soccer, rugby league and athletics. It most recently played host to the opening round of Canada Rugby League's Ontario conference. It played host to the University of Toronto's Varsity Blues Football team in 2002 and 2006 while their Varsity Stadium was being demolished and rebuilt. York Region Shooters (1998)
The York Region Shooters were a soccer team playing in the Canadian Soccer League (2006–present), Canadian Professional Soccer League from 1998 to 2002. They played their home matches in the town of Aurora, Ontario, north of Toronto. The franchise was one of the original teams of the CPSL. The team had its origins in the York Region Soccer League and were previously known as the York Region Stallions. During its five-year stint in the CPSL the club failed to secure a postseason berth, but managed to develop some top talent for the Canada men's national soccer team, Canada national team. The Glen Shields Sun Devils were a soccer team which played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League from 1998 to 2002. They played their home matches in Thornhill, Ontario. The franchise was one of the original teams of the CPSL. Originally founded as a youth soccer club, the youth club still continues to operate, now known as Glen Shields FC. The team was founded in 1982 and was originally known as Glen Shields Soccer Club. London City Soccer Club is a Canadian soccer team founded in 1973. The team is currently a member of the Canadian Academy of Soccer League. The team plays their home games at the Milton Community Sports Park in the town of Milton, Ontario. The team's colours are red, black and white. Formed on Valentine's Day of 1973 by Markus Gauss in order to field a London entry for the National Soccer League after the departure of German Canadian FC. Basil Gewargis Hanna or Basil Korkis () (born 8 January 1961) is a former Iraqi international football player of Assyrian descent. Patrick Omer Nyamsi Tobo (born 9 September 1962) is a former Cameroonian professional footballer who played club football as a defender for clubs in Cameroon and Canada.
