Flossenbürg, Bavaria
Flossenbürg (Northern Bavarian: ''Flossenbirch'') is a municipality in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria in Germany. The state-approved ''leisure area'' is located in the Bavarian Forest and borders Bohemia (the Czech Republic) in the east. During World War II, the Flossenbürg concentration camp was located here. History The first reference of Flossenbürg's existence was in 948. Its castle was the Hohenstaufen's stronghold. Later, Flossenbürg belonged to the duchy of Neuburg-Sulzbach and came to the regional court of Floß in the Electorate of Bavaria in 1777. Floß is a market town in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab and has a history of more than 1000 years. Geography Geographical location The town of Floß is situated on both sides of the Floß (river), Floß river, in a valley approximately 13 kilometers west of the Czech Republic–Germany border, German-Czech border. Etzenricht
Etzenricht is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate, ca. southeast of Weiden in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria in Germany. Etzenricht has 1,532 inhabitants (Dec. 2020) and various small industries. East of Etzenricht toward Rothenstadt is a transformer station of the E.ON AG with the GKK Etzenricht (described below) and a large compressor station for natural gas. Near Etzenricht are numerous fish-rich small waters, which can be used by anglers after obtaining a fishing license from the local fishery association. History Etzenricht was mentioned for the first time in a written document in 1270. In 1283 it was mentioned in the Salbuch of Louis II ("Ludwig der Strenge" as "Aechswinreuth".
