Neighbourhoods In Riga
Since the first period of Latvian independence, Riga has never had an official territorial division of the city that would be smaller than six administrative divisions, even though a division of Riga into 47 micro regions () was initiated during the Soviet occupation. The borders of the micro regions only partly coincide with the borders of the districts and suburbs, and common borders were only at an initial stage. Historically, even smaller micro region divisions were used. An example would be Spilve, that consisted of Beķermuiža, Krēmeri, Voleri, Rātsupe and Lielā muiža. The fact, that these smaller regions had no officially existing borders often created trouble as the interpretation of them among inhabitants and civil servants were quite different. In 2008, the Riga City Council Development Agency began work on the new Riga regions, according to the new plan — definition of neighbourhoods. Ziepniekkalns
Ziepniekkalns is a neighborhood in Riga, Latvia. It is located in the Pārdaugava district of Riga close to the city's southern border. Ziepniekkalns is the newest out of all Riga's neighborhoods. It was developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s and primarily consists of Soviet-era 10-story apartment buildings. However, many older buildings constructed in the early 1960s still exist in Ziepniekkalns. There is a stark contrast between the older 3-story buildings and the newer 10-story ones. Torņakalns
Torņakalns is a neighbourhood of Riga, Latvia located on the western bank of the Daugava River (neighbourhoods along this shore are collectively known as Pārdaugava). The name Torņakalns ('' English: Tower Hill'') derives from a fortified tower built in the Middle Ages close to the Daugava River to alarm the city of Riga in case of emergency and intruders about to cross the river. The tower does not stand nowadays. Overview Torņakalns was an early suburb to Riga, consisting largely of gardens and mansions. Mūkupurvs
Mūkupurvs is a neighborhood of the city of Riga, the capital city of Latvia and in Pārdaugava, a suburb of Zemgale. Mūkupurva neighborhood is located in the R part of Riga. It borders Beberbekai, Zolitūde and Pleskodāle neighborhoods, as well as Mārupe parish of Mārupe county, which is adjacent to the D part of Mūkupurva neighborhood. The boundaries of the Mūkupurva neighborhood are a line parallel to Beberbeķu line 5, Krotes iela, a line along the residential massif, the city boundary (Babītes iela, Kalnciema iela) and Kārļa Ulmanias gatve. The total area of Mūkupurva neighborhood has a population of 242, and its area 4,515 km2, which is only slightly less than the average area indicator of Riga neighborhoods.
