East-West Railway
The East-West Railway Line ( ne, पुर्व-पश्चिम रेल्वे ) or the Mechi-Mahakali Railway is an upcoming Trans–Asian railway project in Nepal. The railway will be the longest in Nepal, stretching expanding from the Eastern Indo-Nepal border of Kakarbhitta to the Western Indo-Nepal border of Kanchanpur. Subsidiary lines will be added expanding the total project to . History The government developed the concept of the East-West Railway in 2007, forming the Department of Railways in 2011. The project started in 2008, but due to various economic, environmental and coordination challenges it was delayed until March 2020. Features The network is expected to grow to 4,000  km within 20 years. Mahakali Irrigation Project
Mahakali Irrigation Project is one of the National Pride Projects of Nepal. Water from Mahakali river at Sarada barrage is diverted to irrigate the farms in Nepal side as per the Mahakali treaty. The command area lies in Kanchanpur and Kailali districts. The headworks of the project is Sharada Barrage, which was constructed in 1928 by the British-Indian government. The main canal of the project was constructed in 1975 with command area of 3,400. In 1976, International Development Association agreed for financing the project and an agreement was signed on September 29, 1980, with an implementation period of 5 years. The first Stage was completed in 1988. The second stage, was signed on November 18, 1988, between Nepal and the International Development Association. It was completed in 1997. Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Project
'Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Project' (सुनकोशी मरिन डाइभर्सन आयोजना) is one of the National Pride Projects being developed by Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (Nepal). The project got status of National Pride Projects in 20 January 2020. The project is an inter-basin transfer project to transfer water from Sunkoshi River to the Marin Khola, a tributary of Bagmati River. The flow will be discharged to the Bagmati Irrigation System to irrigate additional 122,000 ha of land in Rautahat, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi and Bara. The design flow of the project is 67 m3/s. The intake has a 12 m high diversion dam in Sunkoshi river. The flow is transferred via 13.3 km long tunnel. The project also has a power station to generate 38.62 MW of electricity. President Chure-Terai Madhesh Conservation Area Program
President Chure-Terai Madhesh Conservation Area Program is one of the National Pride Projects initiated by the Government of Nepal. The aim of the program is to conserve the natural resources of Chure region, which occupies 12.78% of Nepal, by sustainable management and promotion of ecological services. The program was launched after the 1st Nepalese Constituent Assembly in 2067/68 BS under the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation. Background The Chure region is considered as a fragile mountain range in the Himalayas because of its young age. This region is a major source of water, ecology, and biodiversity. Melamchi Water Supply Project
Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP) is a project to supply drinking water to Kathmandu Valley by diverting of water per day. The project started in 1998 and completed in 2021. The intake of this project is located in Melamchi, Nepal. Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (Nepal) is the executing agency for the Project and Melamchi Water Supply Development Board is the implementing agency. Karnali Highway
Karnali Highway ( ne, कर्णाली राजमार्ग, also referred to as H13) is a highway, and is a vital transport link between two regions in Nepal. This highway links the towns of Jumla with the Karnali capital Birendranagar and rest parts of Surkhet district. Karnali Province is the largest, remotest and the least developed province in Nepal. Kaligandaki Corridor
NH48 or Kaligandaki Corridor ( ne, काली गन्डकी राजमार्ग) is an under construction long highway in Nepal starting from Tansen, Nepal, Tansen and ending at Korala, the northern part near the Chinese border. It is one of the National Pride Projects. After the completion, about 1 million people of 10 districts will have direct access to motorable road. The road is also predicted to become a trading route between Nepal, India and China. The route passes though Midhills and Himalayan mountains. Main locality includes Palpa, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung and Muktinath. The road is being constructed by multiple contractors, including Nepal Army’s Road Construction Division. The project was started on 3 December 2018 and scheduled for completion by December, 2021. Koshi Highway ( ne, कोशी राजमार्ग) or H08 is a 390 km long planned highway located in Province No. 1 of Nepal.
