Metroidvania Games
Metroidvania is a sub-genre of action-adventure games and/or platformers focused on nonlinear exploration and guided progression with a need to acquire key items to enter certain areas. The term is a partial blend of the names of the video game series ''Metroid'' and ''Castlevania'', based on the template from ''Metroid'' (1986), '' Castlevania II'' (1987), ''Super Metroid'' (1994), and '' Castlevania: Symphony of the Night'' (1997). These games usually feature a large interconnected world map the player can explore, although parts of the world will be inaccessible to the player until they acquire special items, tools, weapons, abilities, or knowledge within the game. Acquiring such improvements can also aid the player in defeating more difficult enemies and locating shortcuts and secret areas, and often includes retracing one's steps across the map. ''Guacamelee!'' is a Metroidvania action platforming video game developed and published by DrinkBox Studios, initially launched in April 2013 for platforms PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita and was later ported to Windows in August and to OS X and Linux in February 2014. The enhanced ''Super Turbo Championship Edition'' was released for Wii U, Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in July 2014 and later on the Nintendo Switch in October 2018. Koji Igarashi
is a Japanese video game producer, programmer, writer, and creative director. In 2009, he was chosen by IGN as one of the top 100 game creators of all time. Often credited as IGA, he began his career by joining Konami in 1990 as a programmer. Over the next ten years, he moved into a senior role within the company, working on '' Castlevania: Symphony of the Night'' as a programmer, writer, and assistant director. He later served as the lead producer on the '' Castlevania'' series, starting with '' Castlevania Chronicles'' in 1999 and ending with '' Castlevania: Harmony of Despair'' in 2011. ''Vampire Killer'', known in Japan as is a 1986 platform game developed and published by Konami for the MSX2. It is a parallel version of the original '' Castlevania'', which debuted a month earlier for the Famicom Disk System under the same Japanese title. However, the MSX2 version was localized first in Europe and was published without the ''Castlevania'' branding that the franchise would start using abroad in 1987 when the NES version was released in North America (where neither ''Vampire Killer'' nor the MSX2 platform were released). In video games, a power-up is an object that adds temporary benefits or extra abilities to the player character as a Game mechanics, game mechanic.
