''MasterChef'' is a competitive cooking show television format created by Franc Roddam, which originated with MasterChef (British TV series), the British version in July 1990. The show aims to discover the culinary talent of chefs of varying skill levels, through a series of cooking challenges, watched over by various acclaimed food critics and chefs. Dave Ross commissioned the show for the BBC and gave it the name; he had already produced ''Masterteam'', a quiz show hosted by Angela Rippon, and worked on the long-running ''Mastermind (British game show), Mastermind'', and so the name was a continuation of that. The format was revived and updated for the BBC in February 2005 by executive producers Roddam and John Silver with series producer Karen Ross. The revived format is sold internationally by Banijay. ''MasterChef Australia'' is an Australian competitive cooking reality show based on the original British ''MasterChef (British TV series), MasterChef''. It is produced by Endemol Shine Australia and screens on Network 10. Restaurateur and chef Gary Mehigan, chef George Calombaris and food critic Matt Preston served as the show's original hosts and judges until 2019, when they were replaced by MasterChef Australia (series 4), Series 4 winner and chef Andy Allen (chef), Andy Allen, food critic Melissa Leong, and restaurateur and chef Jock Zonfrillo. ''Junior MasterChef'' is a British TV cookery competition, broadcast by the BBC, in which nine to twelve-year-olds compete to be crowned "Junior MasterChef". MasterChef Australia (Season 2)
The second series of the Australian cookery game show ''MasterChef Australia'' premiered on 19 April 2010 on Network Ten, concluding on 25 July 2010 when Adam Liaw was named the winner. The series finale was predicted to be such a success with ratings that it forced a national election debate between Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott to a different time slot due to a fear of low ratings. The "Winner Announced" was watched by an average national audience of 5.29 million, peaking at 5.74 million. The consolidated 5 city metropolitan audience was 4.03 million (the second highest rating program since the current ratings system began in 2001) and the consolidated regional audience was 1.26 million. ''MasterChef Australia All-Stars'' is an Australian cooking reality show that aired on Network Ten from 26 July 2012. It featured a number of returning contestants from the first three seasons of ''MasterChef Australia'' (including season 1 and season 3 winners Julie Goodwin and Kate Bracks), revisiting past challenges in order to raise money for charity. The series aired for three weeks, mostly during the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was also the last iteration of the show to be shot in the MasterChef kitchen in Alexandria, Sydney, home of the series for all past seasons. ''MasterChef'', also known as ''MasterChef Brasil'', is the Brazilian version of the competitive cooking reality show ''MasterChef (British TV series), MasterChef'' airing on Rede Bandeirantes, Band. ''Dessert Masters'', also known as ''MasterChef: Dessert Masters'', is an Australian cooking reality show produced by Endemol Shine Australia which premiered on 12 November 2023 on Network 10. It is a spin-off of ''MasterChef Australia'', itself an adaptation of the British ''MasterChef'', and sees ten professional pastry chefs competing for a $100,000 prize. Former ''MasterChef Australia'' judge Melissa Leong and international pastry chef Amaury Guichon feature as judges. ''Dessert Masters'' was announced at Network 10's upfronts in October 2022. Francis George Franc Roddam (born 29 April 1946) is an English film director, businessman, screenwriter, television producer and publisher, best known as the creator of ''Auf Wiedersehen, Pet'' and ''Masterchef'' and as the director of ''Quadrophenia (film), Quadrophenia'' (1979). He is a graduate of the London Film School.
