Marousi
Marousi or Maroussi (), also known as Amarousio (), is a city and a suburb in the northeastern part of the Athens#Athens Urban Area, Athens urban area, Greece. Marousi dates back to the era of the History of Athens, ancient Athenian Republic; its ancient name was ''Athmonum, Athmonon'' () and it represented one of the 10 Athenian sub-cities. The area held a main ancient temple, where Amarysia Artemis, the goddess of hunting, was adored. Consequently the city's modern name derives from that of the goddess, ''Amarysia'', which denotes the origin of the worship back in Amarynthos, Euboea. Marousi Metro Station
Marousi (), also known as Maroussi, is an Athens Metro station in Marousi, a northern suburb in Athens. The station is served by Line 1 (Athens Metro), Line 1, and is down the line from the southern terminus of , between to the south and to the north. The station is managed by STASY, and was rebuilt with step-free access as part of the renovation of Line 1 in 2004. History The Marousi metro station is on the site of a former Lavrion Square–Strofyli railway station called Amarousion, which was open from 4 February 1885 to 8 August 1938. The current metro station on an elevated viaduct was built by the Hellenic Electric Railways, and opened on 1 September 1957: in 2004, the Athens–Piraeus Electric Railways renovated the station with a new roof and step-free access. Line 1 (Athens Metro)
Line 1 is the oldest of the three lines of the Athens Metro, running from to . The Athens metro#Piraeus–Kifissia Railway, Athens-Piraeus Railway Company (SAP S.A.) first opened the line, between and , on 27 February 1869. On 4 February 1885 Lavrion Square-Strofyli railway line opened between Attiki metro station, Attiki Square and . These railway lines gradually merged and converted to a rapid-transit system. Neratziotissa Station
Neratziotissa or Nerantziotissa ( or respectively), is a complex of two train stations located in the median strip of the Attiki Odos motorway in Marousi, a northern suburb of Athens, Greece. The first is a station of Line 1 of the Athens Metro, and the second is a '' Athens Suburban Railway'' (suburban rail) station. It takes its name from the nearby Byzantine church of Παναγία Νεραντζιώτισσα ('' Panagía Nerantziótissa''), which was itself named for the abundance of bitter orange trees in the area. The station is near The Mall Athens, a large American-style shopping mall. It is also close to the Athens Olympic Sports Complex. Kifisias Avenue
Kifisias Avenue () is one of the longest and busiest avenues in Athens, Greece, containing the headquarters of many Greek and foreign companies and organizations. Description The total length of the Kifisias Avenue is about 20 km, beginning 4 km northeast of downtown Athens and ending by the municipal boundary of Nea Erythraia north of Kifisia. The number of lanes is three, up to Kifisia, then two through Kifissia, before it turns to a one lane (per direction) road for the rest of its length. The avenue begins at the intersection of Alexandras and Mesogeion Avenues, and then intersects with Katechaki Avenue, three roads to Neo Psychiko and Filothei as well as to the Athens Olympic Stadium. Pefki
Pefki (, , meaning "pine", before 1959: Μαγκουφάνα ''Magkoufana'' ) is a town and a suburb in the northeastern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Lykovrysi-Pefki, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit and is part of North Athens regional unit. According to the 2021 population census, Pefki has 21,293 residents. Geography Pefki is situated northeast of Athens city centre. The municipal unit has an area of 2.176 km2. The built-up area of Pefki is continuous with those of the neighbouring suburbs Irakleio, Lykovrysi, Kifisia and Marousi. Pefki consists of two areas: Ano Pefki and Kato Pefki. Kifisias Railway Station
Kifisias railway station () is a station located on Kifisias Avenue in Marousi, a municipality of the regional unit of North Athens, Attica, Greece, located in the median strip of the A6 motorway (Attiki Odos), at the interchange of Kifisias Avenue, from which the station is named. It was first opened on 30 July 2004, along with the first section of the Athens Airport–Patras railway. The station consists of an island platform and a train storage line. In the future, it will meet with Metro Line 4, through Paradise Station, which is planned to open after 2035. Halandri
Chalandri (, Ancient Greek: Φλύα, ''Phlya'', also ''Halandri'', ''Khalandri'') is a town and a suburb in the northern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. It is a municipality of the Attica region. Geography Chalandri is a suburb in Northern Athens, around from the centre; its location corresponds with one of the 10 ancient demes (boroughs) of Athens, known as Phlya (). Vrilissia () is a suburban town and a municipality of the North Athens regional unit, in the Attica region. It is located in the Athens basin, at the southwestern foot of the Penteli Mountain. Athmonum
Athmonum or Athmonon (), also Athmonia (Ἀθμονία), was a deme of ancient Attica, situated on the site of Marousi (Amarousion). The name of the modern village has been derived from Amarysia, a surname of Artemis, who was worshipped under this designation at Athmonum. An inscription found near Marousi, in which the ''temenos'' of this goddess is mentioned, puts the matter beyond dispute. Athmonum also possessed a very ancient temple of Aphrodite Urania.
