Maikammer
Maikammer () is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstraße district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the German Wine Route, approx. 5 km south of Neustadt an der Weinstraße. Maikammer is the seat of the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' Maikammer (Verbandsgemeinde), Maikammer. Geography Location Maikammer lies at elevations from 120 to 300 m at the foot of the Kalmit, the highest mountain in the Palatine Forest (673 m), in a landscape dominated by vineyards. Other high ground within the boundaries of the parish includes the north flank of the Schafkopf (Haardt), Schafkopf (617 m), the Rotsohlberg (607 m), the north flank of the Stotz (603 m), the northeast flank of the Breitenberg (Haardt), Breitenberg (545 m), the Flachkopf (498 m) and the Wetterkreuzberg (Haardt), Wetterkreuzberg (401 m). Franz Ullrich
Franz Ullrich (22 July 1830 – 21 December 1891) was a German industrialist, inventor, vineyard owner, entrepreneur, and co-founder of the enamelling factory ''Gebrüder Ullrich'' in the town of Maikammer, Germany. Together with his brother Anton Ullrich, he developed a patent for a joint spring lock in folding rulers, which enabled measurements in horizontal and vertical positions without the rulers collapsing. His son, Gustav Ullrich, later became a prominent entrepreneur. Life and work Origin and youth Franz Ullrich was the youngest of seven siblings. He was the son of Leonhard Ullrich (1793–1838), an internationally active merchant, and his wife, Regina Damm. Leonhard ran a business dealing in colonial goods and textiles at what is now ''Sankt Martiner Straße 5'' in Maikammer. Kalmit
The Kalmit is the highest peak in the Palatinate Forest and the second highest (after the Donnersberg) in the Palatinate region of Germany. It is and located south of the town of Neustadt an der Weinstraße. The mountain attracts many tourists thanks to the numerous footpaths leading to its summit, its mountaintop restaurant, extensive views over the Palatinate wine region and striking rock formations on its forest-clad mountainsides. Wetterkreuzberg (Haardt)
The Wetterkreuzberg () is a hill in the Haardt range on the eastern edge of the Palatine Forest in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Location The Wetterkreuzberg, like the Breitenberg (545.2 m), the Taubenkopf (603.8 m) and the Kanzel (531.7 m), is one of the outlying peaks of the Kalmit massif (672.6 m). It is located in an exposed location right on the edge of the Haardt so that, despite its low elevation, it is seen from places in the Rhine Plain as a prominent peak. To the north the hill is linked to the Kanzel over a shallow saddle. At the summit is a chapel to St. Mary (the ''Maria-Schutz-Kapelle'') which is visible from a long way off. Breitenberg (Haardt)
The Breitenberg near Sankt Martin (Pfalz), Sankt Martin in the Rhineland-Palatinate county of Südliche Weinstraße is a hill, , and subpeak of the Kalmit, the highest mountain in the Palatinate Forest. It is part of the Haardt mountains. Geography Location The Breitenberg lies within both the Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve and the Palatinate Forest Nature Park. Its summit rises 1.3 km northwest of Sankt Martin (Pfalz), Sankt Martin and 3 km west-northwest (both as the crow flies) of Maikammer, whose joint territorial boundary runs over the completely wooded hill. Anton Ullrich
Johannes Anton Ullrich (1826–1895) was a German industrialist, inventor, and co-founder of the "Gebrüder Ullrich" in the Rhineland-Palatinate. Life Anton Ullrich was born on the 30 August 1826 in the small village of Maikammer, Germany. He was the youngest son of an international merchant, Leonhard Ullrich, and his wife Regina Damm. Anton Ullrich worked in his father's store, before founding the "Gebrüder Ullrich" with his younger brother Franz Ullrich. In 1851 Anton Ullrich invented the folding ruler, and in 1887 obtained the patent for the springed hinge of the folding ruler. The "Gebrüder Ullrich" company expanded quickly and later built another factory site in the neighbouring village of Kirrweiler. Maikammer (Verbandsgemeinde)
Maikammer is a ''Verbandsgemeinde'' ("collective municipality") in the Südliche Weinstraße district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The seat of the municipality is in Maikammer. Südliche Weinstraße (; ; ) is a district (''Kreis'') in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Karl Robert Eduard von Hartmann (23 February 1842 – 5 June 1906) was a German philosopher, independent scholar and writer. He was the author of the influential '' Philosophy of the Unconscious'' (1869).
