Joe McDonagh Cup
The Joe McDonagh Cup () is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The cup forms the second-tier of Hurling for senior county teams (the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship is the first-tier trophy). It is contested by the six county teams ranked 12–17 in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Each year, the champions of the Joe McDonagh Cup are promoted to their Province (Gaelic games)#Provincial championships, provincial championship, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Christy Ring Cup. The cup is named in honour of Joe McDonagh, the former president of the Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA who died in 2016. 2025 Joe McDonagh Cup
The 2025 Joe McDonagh Cup is the eighth staging of the Joe McDonagh Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2018 Joe McDonagh Cup, 2018. Offaly county hurling team, Offaly, winner of the 2024 Joe McDonagh Cup, 2024 final, were promoted to the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, replaced by Carlow county hurling team, Carlow who were relegated back to this competition. Kildare county hurling team, Kildare were promoted from the Christy Ring Cup. The top 2 teams from the round robin stage will play off in the final to decide the winner, both advance to the 2025 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship knock-out stages. A province is a geographic region within Gaelic games, consisting of several counties of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and originally based on the historic four provinces of Ireland as they were set in 1610. Meath GAA
The Meath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Meath GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Meath, as well as for Meath county teams. Football County team The first notable Meath team was the Pierce O'Mahony's club from Navan that represented the county in the All-Ireland final of 1895, when the competition used to be played between the champion clubs from each county. O'Mahony's lost to Arravale Rovers of Tipperary by 0-4 to 0-3. The county had to wait until 1939 for its next appearance at All-Ireland level, this time losing narrowly to Kerry by 2-5 to 2-3 in the final. In the intervening period, the county had achieved its first national success by winning the National League of 1933. 2017 Christy Ring Cup
The 2017 Christy Ring Cup was the 13th staging of the Christy Ring Cup hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2005. The competition began on 22 April 2017 and ended on 10 June 2017. Meath GAA, Meath were the 2016 Christy Ring Cup, 2016 champions and were promoted to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Mayo GAA, Mayo returned to the Christy Ring Cup after gaining promotion from the Nicky Rackard Cup. On 10 June 2017, Carlow GAA, Carlow won the Christy Ring Cup following a 5-23 to 4-15 defeat of Antrim GAA, Antrim. This was their third Christy Ring Cup title, their first in eight seasons. Carlow County Hurling Team
The Carlow county hurling team represents Carlow in hurling and is governed by Carlow GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the Joe McDonagh Cup and the National Hurling League. Carlow's home ground is Dr Cullen Park, Carlow. The team's manager is Tom Mullally.
