Ironman World Championship
The Ironman World Championship is a triathlon held annually in Hawaii, United States from 1978 to 2022, with no race in 2020 and an additional race in 1982. It is owned and organized by the World Triathlon Corporation. It is the annual culmination of a series of Ironman triathlon qualification races held throughout the world. From 2023, the Men's and Women's Ironman World Championships were separated with one at Kona and the other hosted at another venue. Gustav Iden (born 1 May 1996) is a professional Norwegian triathlete. He is a 2022 Ironman World champion and he is a two-time winner of the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, winning in 2019 and 2021. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, Iden placed 8th in the men's triathlon. In 2018, he was part of a world-first Norwegian 1-2-3 with Casper Stornes and Kristian Blummenfelt finishing ahead of him in first and second place respectively at WTS Bermuda. Sam Laidlow (born December 23, 1998) is a French professional long course triathlete. Sam won the 2023 Ironman World Championship on 10 September 2023 in Nice, France. He became the first Ironman World Champion from France and the youngest man ever to win the title. He placed second in the (second) 2022 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, breaking the bike course record. Lucy Charles-Barclay (born 15 September 1993) is an English professional triathlete specialising in the Ironman and 70.3 ("half-Ironman") distances. She is the 2023 World Ironman champion and the 2021 World Champion in the 70.3 discipline, both under the authority of the World Triathlon Corporation.
