Iraklis B.C. is a Greece, Greek professional basketball club based in the city of Thessaloniki, Macedonia (Greece), Macedonia, Greece. Created in 1921, it serves as the professional Man, men's basketball department of the sports club, multi–sport club of G.S. Iraklis Thessaloniki, G.S. Iraklis Thessalonikis. The club's colors are blue and white, inspired by the flag of Greece. They play their home matches at Ivanofeio Sports Arena. As of 2025, the club competes in the Greek basketball league system, first–tier level Greek Basketball League. Greek Basketball League System
The Greek basketball league system is a number of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Greece. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. There are nine different competition levels in the system. The highest level competitions are the professional and semi professional nationwide competitions, which include the top-tier level Greek Basketball League (GBL), the second-tier level Greek A2 Basketball League, the third-tier level Greek B Basketball League, and the fourth-tier level Greek C Basketball League. Those competitions are then followed by the regional amateur level competitions, which include: the A1, the A2, the B, the C, and/or the C1, and the C2 categories. Sofoklis Schortsanitis ( Greek: Σοφοκλής Σχορτσανίτης; born 22 June 1985) is a Cameroonian-Greek former professional basketball player and Olympian. Dimitrios 'Dimitris' Diamantidis ( ; born 6 May 1980) is a retired Greek professional basketball player, who spent the last twelve seasons of his EuroLeague career with Panathinaikos BC, Panathinaikos. Lazaros Papadopoulos (Greek: Λάζαρος Παπαδόπουλος; born 3 June 1980) is a Greek former professional basketball player. Vasily Nikolayevich Karasev (; born April 14, 1971) is a Russian former professional basketball player and coach. He was most recently the head coach of Zenit Saint Petersburg. Nikolaos (Nikos) Chatzivrettas (alternate spelling: Hatzivrettas) (Greek: Νικόλαος (Νίκος) Χατζηβρέττας; born May 26, 1977) is a retired Greek professional basketball player. At a height of Chatzivrettas 1.97 m (6 ft 5 in) tall, he played at the shooting guard and small forward positions. He was inducted into the Greek Basket League Hall of Fame in 2022. Roy James Tarpley Jr. (November 28, 1964 – January 9, 2015) was an American professional basketball player. He played the power forward and center positions in the National Basketball Association (NBA), earning an NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in 1988. Xavier Maurice McDaniel (born June 4, 1963), nicknamed "X-Man", is an American former professional basketball player who, at 6 ft 7 in, played both small forward and power forward.
