Gemunu Watch
The Gemunu Watch (GW) ("King Dutugemunu's Own") is a infantry regiment of the Sri Lanka Army, formed with troops from the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Ceylon Light Infantry and the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Ceylon Sinha Regiment in 1962. It has been deployed in many major operations against the LTTE. It is made up of 14 regular units and 9 Military reserve force, volunteer units. Headquartered at Kuruwita Army Camp, Ratnapura. It is named after one of the most famous Lankan Kings, King Dutugemunu. History The roots of the Gemunu Watch can be traced to the Volunteer Force, volunteer formations of the British Empire and the formation of the Ceylon Infantry Regiment by a Gazette notification on 1 April 1881. Later, in order to encourage the concept of volunteering, the volunteer force was expanded to include units at the district level. Gemunu Kulatunge
Major General Gemunu Kulatunge, RSP, USP, ndc, psc (1941–2003) was a Sri Lankan army general, who was the former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army. Educated at Royal College, Colombo, he graduated from the University of Ceylon in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree and had won university colours for Rugby. He thereafter joined the Ceylon Army. Having completed his basic officer training at the Army Training Center, Diyatalawa and was commissioned into the Ceylon Sinha Regiment as a second lieutenant on 1 September 1965. He was posted to the 1st Battalion, Ceylon Sinha Regiment from April 1966, in which he served as a platoon commander, adjutant. He then served as company commander, staff officer II at the Army Training Center; staff officer II at Army Headquarters. Gemunu Wijesuriya
Gamunu Mahinda Wijesuriya (5 August 1934 – 19 March 2007: as ), was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, theatre, radio and television as well as a broadcaster, comedian, singer and radio program producer. Personal life Wijesuriya was born on 5 August 1934 in Dewalapola, Sri Lanka. He studied at Udugampola Maha Vidyalaya. He was married to Maali and had two children. Wijesuriya died on 19 March 2007 in Colombo. Career He started his career as a radio artist joining the Radio Ceylon (currently known as Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation) with ''Lama Pitiya'', a popular radio programme produced by Karunaratne Abeysekera for the children of the country. ''Maharaja Gemunu (King Gemunu)'' () is a 2015 Sri Lankan Sinhala epic film directed by Jayantha Chandrasiri and produced by Gunapala Rathnasekara for Sipvin Films. It stars Uddika Premarathna and Jackson Anthony in lead roles along with Sriyantha Mendis and Yashoda Wimaladharma. Its music was composed by Nadeeka Guruge.
