''Degrassi'' is a Canadian teen drama television Media franchise, franchise created by Kit Hood and Linda Schuyler, that follows the lives of youths attending the eponymous secondary school in Toronto. Each entry since 1987 has taken place in the same continuity. Outside of television, the franchise comprises a variety of other media, such as companion novels, graphic novels, documentaries, soundtracks, and non-fiction works. In 1979, Schuyler and Hood adapted the Kay Chorao book ''Ida Makes a Movie'' into a Ida Makes a Movie, live-action short film, and expanded upon its universe with a series of subsequent installments until 1982, when it evolved into the critically acclaimed children's series ''The Kids of Degrassi Street'', which aired for 26 episodes until 1986. Kit Hood
Christopher "Kit" Hood (24 March 1943 – 20 January 2020) was an English-born Canadian filmmaker who co-created the '' Degrassi'' television franchise and its first three entries: ''The Kids of Degrassi Street'' (1979–86), '' Degrassi Junior High'' (1987–89), and '' Degrassi High'' (1989-91), as well serving as the writer and/or director of the majority of their episodes. As a director, Hood won a Gemini Award in 1987 for the ''Degrassi Junior High'' episode " It's Late". Born in London, he emigrated to Canada in 1969 and worked as a freelance editor before meeting ex-schoolteacher Linda Schuyler, with whom he founded the company Playing With Time in 1976. Outside of ''Degrassi'', the company produced educational films and documentaries. Playing With Time, Inc
Playing With Time, Inc. was a Canadian independent film and television production company based in Toronto, Ontario. Founded by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood in 1976, it is best known for being the original production company for the ''Degrassi'' television franchise, producing ''The Kids of Degrassi Street'' (1979–86), ''Degrassi Junior High'' (1987–89), and ''Degrassi High'' (1989–91)''.'' It also produced educational short films throughout its existence. The company's work was known for its unconventional filmmaking practices, including casting ordinary people in lieu of experienced trained actors. The N (TV Programming Block)
The N (standing for Noggin) was a prime time and late-night programming block on the Noggin television channel, aimed at preteens and teenagers. It was launched on April 1, 2002, by MTV Networks and Sesame Workshop. Before the block's introduction, Noggin's daytime lineup included tween shows like '' A Walk in Your Shoes'', '' Sponk!'', and '' Big Kids''. In 2002, Noggin restructured its daytime lineup to cater to preschool children. From then onward, the shows targeted to older children only aired during the night as part of The N. Family Channel (commonly or simply known as Family) is a Canadian English-language specialty channel owned by WildBrain Television Inc., a subsidiary of WildBrain. MTV was a Canadian English-language discretionary specialty channel formerly owned by Bell Media subsidiary of BCE Inc. with the name and branding used under a licensing agreement with Paramount Global. MuchMusic
Much is a Canadian English language discretionary specialty channel owned by BCE Inc. through its Bell Media subsidiary that airs programming aimed at teenagers and young adults. It is headquartered at 299 Queen Street West in what was once called the MuchMusic World Headquarters. This channel was originally launched on August 31, 1984 as MuchMusic, under the ownership of CHUM Limited, the owner of Citytv Toronto, though "Much" has been the branding most commonly seen on-air since 1997.
