DeBarge Songs
DeBarge was an American musical recording group composed of several members of the DeBarge family. In addition to various solo projects completed by members of the family, DeBarge was active between 1979 and 1989. The group originally consisted of El, Mark, Randy, and Bunny. James joined the group a year later for their 1982 second album. Bobby joined in 1987, following the departures of Bunny and El. DeBarge released six studio albums, four of them with Motown subsidiary Gordy Records. These albums included ''The DeBarges'' (1981), '' All This Love'' (1982), ''In a Special Way'' (1983), and '' Rhythm of the Night'' (1985). The latter became the group's best-selling album and contained the single " Rhythm of the Night", which hit No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it their highest-charting single in America. ''In a Special Way'' is the third studio album by American R&B group DeBarge, released by Gordy Records on September 23, 1983. It was recorded at Kendun Records in Burbank and Westlake Audio in West Hollywood; written and produced by lead vocalist El DeBarge with additional writing by Mark, James and Bunny DeBarge. ''In a Special Way'' was certified gold in the United States after the release of the singles " Time Will Reveal" and "Love Me in a Special Way", which hit number one on the ''Billboard'' R&B and adult contemporary singles chart. The album is most memorable for not only its singles but album tracks such as " Stay with Me" and "A Dream" - largely due to subsequent sampling in modern hip-hop and R&B tracks. All This Love (DeBarge Song)
"All This Love" is a single by DeBarge, released on October 17, 1982 in the US and July 22, 1983 in the UK. The song was released as the third and final single from their second studio album of the same title on the Gordy label. The single would help DeBarge rise to R&B stardom. A cover version of the song was recorded by Patti LaBelle on her 1994 gold album '' Gems''. A video for her version was also filmed. Overview History DeBarge had released one album that performed poorly on the charts, and they recorded their second album with their own songs, chiefly written by El DeBarge, the main lead singer and focal point of the group. "I Like It" is a R&B/soul song by American family band DeBarge. It was released in 1982 by Motown Records as the second single from their second studio album, '' All This Love'' (1982). Overview Recording After releasing their poorly-received self-titled album, the group quickly returned to the studio to record their second album. Choosing to add younger brother James and shortening their name to simply DeBarge, the group returned to Motown's recording studios determined to produce a hit. The song was musically composed by El DeBarge, who also produced the track with Iris Gordy, with lyrics provided by Randy, El and sister Bunny, who composed the much-copied bridge. Berry Gordy III (born November 28, 1929), also known as Berry Gordy Jr., is an American retired record executive, record producer, songwriter, film producer and television producer. He is best known as the founder of the Motown record label and its subsidiaries, which was the highest-earning African-American business for decades. Jonathan Arthur "Chico" DeBarge (born June 23, 1966) is an American R&B singer and musician. DeBarge was formally a member of the DeBarge family musical group DeBarge. As a solo artist, he scored a 1986 US Top Forty hit with the song "Talk to Me". Career He began a musical career of his own with Motown in the mid-1980s. His debut self-titled album was released in 1986 and featured the hit single "Talk To Me" (#21 US, #7 R&B). Etterlene Louise Rodriguez (previously DeBarge, née Abney; October 13, 1935 – February 16, 2024) was an American gospel singer, songwriter, and the matriarch of the American R&B/soul vocal group DeBarge. She was the author of ''Other Side of the Pain'', which documented her struggles in her marriage to her children's father and her children's rise to fame and struggles under the spotlight.
