The Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma ( en, Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques) is an organization that gives out the César Award. It was created in 1975, on the initiative of Georges Cravenne. Board of directors The board is made up of 50 members, with an additional 13 selected for their contributions to cinema. They handle admissions, criteria and overall management. Protests over the structure of the board came to a head in February 2020. An open letter signed by over 400 French directors and actors decried the "opaqueness" of the Board's structure and the lack of democratic governance; members of the Academy do not vote on leadership, unlike similar organizations such as the Motion Picture Academy or the BAFTA. In response, the entire board of directors resigned in the weeks before the 2019/2020 César Award ceremony. ''The Toy'' (french: Le Jouet) is a 1976 French comedy-drama film directed by Francis Veber. The film was remade in 1982 as the American film '' The Toy''. Plot The movie tells the story of a little boy who is trying to prove his father wrong by acting exactly like him. His father "buys" people and nothing can stop him from getting what he wants. His son does not see why he cannot do the same and decides to buy a man, who he encountered at the toy shop. The man he chose happened to be a journalist at his father's newspaper. Gradually with the help of his “toy” the boy manages to prove his father's wrong deeds by exposing them in the newspaper produced by him and his "toy". Along this journey, the boy establishes warm relationships with the man and refuses to stay with his father any longer. The message behind the story is that love and respect matter more than money. ''Madame Rosa'' (french: La vie devant soi) is a 1977 French drama film directed by Moshé Mizrahi, adapted from the 1975 novel '' The Life Before Us'' by Romain Gary. It stars Simone Signoret and Samy Ben-Youb, and tells the story of an elderly Jewish woman and former prostitute in Paris who cares for a number of children, including an adolescent Algerian boy. The film required a transformation in Signoret's appearance as Madame Rosa. The film was viewed in context of Arab–Israeli conflicts, and received positive reviews. It won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, while Signoret won the César Award for Best Actress for her performance.
