Cáceres, Mato Grosso
Cáceres is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. It covers an area of 24,000 km² and as of 2022 had an estimated population of 89,681. The town is sited on the Paraguay River, and hosts a popular fishing festival each September. The municipality contains part of the Serra das Araras Ecological Station. It also contains part of the Taiamã Ecological Station. The municipality contains the Guirá State Park, created in 2002. Cáceres was the starting point of the Roosevelt–Rondon Scientific Expedition. Cáceres is the administrative headquarters of the Mato Grosso State University and has 13 graduation courses and 3 post graduation courses. The Mato Grosso State University (, ''Unemat'') is a public university in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. It was created in 1978 and it is funded by the State Government of the Mato Grosso state. Roosevelt–Rondon Scientific Expedition
The Roosevelt–Rondon Scientific Expedition (Portuguese language, Portuguese: Expedição Científica Rondon–Roosevelt) was a survey expedition in 1913–14 to follow the path of the Roosevelt River, Rio da Dúvida ("River of Doubt") in the Amazon basin. The expedition was jointly led by Theodore Roosevelt, the former president of the United States, and Colonel Cândido Rondon, a Brazilian explorer who had discovered its headwaters in 1909. Taiamã Ecological Station
Taiamã Ecological Station () is an ecological station in the Mato Grosso state of Brazil. Creation In the 1970s the Special Secretariat of the Environment under the environmentalist Paulo Nogueira Neto launched a program of ''estações ecológicas'' (ecological stations) with the aim of establishing a network of reserves that would protect representative samples of all Brazilian ecosystems. Several stations were created in 1981, of which the Taiamã Ecological Station was the only one in the Pantanal, created by decree on 2 June 1981. The Taiamã Ecological Station is in the Cáceres and Poconé municipalities of Mato Grosso. Serra Das Araras Ecological Station
Serra das Araras Ecological Station () is an ecological station in Mato Grosso, Brazil. It contains a sample of the Cerrado biome. Location The reserve, which has an area of , was created on 31 May 1982. It is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation. It covers parts of the Cáceres and Porto Estrela municipalities of Mato Grosso.
