Cyprus Showdown
The Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown was a professional golf tournament that was held 5–8 November 2020 at the Aphrodite Hills Resort, in Paphos, Cyprus. The tournament was contested over 72-holes of stroke play but featured a novel elimination format. The tournament, promoted by International Sports Management, was initially announced as the Cyprus Classic and was intended to be a one-off event on the European Tour calendar during the 2020 season. It was the second of two tournaments in Cyprus, held the week after the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Open at the same venue. Robert MacIntyre shot a final round 64 to claim the title; one stroke better than Masahiro Kawamura. Paphos, also spelled as Pafos, is a coastal city in southwest Cyprus and the capital of Paphos District. Aphrodite Hills
Aphrodite Hills Resort is a coastal resort in the Paphos district of Cyprus. The resort is named after the goddess Aphrodite and is 1 mile (1.6 km) away from Aphrodite's Rock. The facilities are built across two plateaus divided by a ravine. It is designed to resemble a historic Mediterranean town with Greco-Roman architecture featuring locally quarried stone. The town square had been built to replicate a local plateia and has a market, restaurants, souvenir shops, a chapel, gardens, fountains, and an art gallery. The resort also has a spa, golf course, and leisure facilities. The European Tour, currently titled as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, and legally the PGA European Tour or the European Tour Group, is the leading men's professional golf tour in Europe. The organisation also operates the European Senior Tour (for players aged 50 or older) and the developmental Challenge Tour; the second tier of men's professional golf in Europe. Robert MacIntyre
Robert "Bob" Duncan MacIntyre (born 3 August 1996) is a Scottish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and PGA Tour. Amateur career MacIntyre had a successful amateur career. In 2013 he won both the Scottish Youths Championship and the Scottish Boys Open Stroke-Play Championship. He won the Scottish Amateur in 2015. In 2016 he lost 2&1 to Scott Gregory (golfer), Scott Gregory in the final of the Amateur Championship at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. The 2020 European Tour was the 49th season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972. The Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Open was a professional golf tournament that was held from 29 October – 1 November 2020 at the Aphrodite Hills Resort, in Paphos, Cyprus. The tournament, promoted by International Sports Management, was the first of two back-to-back Cyprus based events on the European Tour calendar during the 2020 season. Masahiro Kawamura
is a Japanese professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, having previously played on the Japan Golf Tour and the Asian Tour. Kawamura won his first title in 2013 at the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open on the Japan Golf Tour, a tournament also co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour. In November 2020, Kawamura recorded his best finish to his European Tour career when he finished runner-up at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown; one shot behind Robert MacIntyre.
