JavaScript
JavaScript (), often abbreviated as JS, is a programming language and core technology of the World Wide Web, alongside HTML and CSS. Ninety-nine percent of websites use JavaScript on the client side for webpage behavior. Web browsers have a dedicated JavaScript engine that executes the client code. These engines are also utilized in some servers and a variety of apps. The most popular runtime system for non-browser usage is Node.js. JavaScript is a high-level, often just-in-time–compiled language that conforms to the ECMAScript standard. It has dynamic typing, prototype-based object-orientation, and first-class functions. It is multi-paradigm, supporting event-driven, functional, and imperative programming styles. It has application programming interfaces (APIs) for working with text, dates, regular expressions, standard data structures, and the Document Object Model (DOM). The ECMAScript standard does not include any input/output (I/O), such as netwo ...

Smashing Magazine
''Smashing Magazine'' is an online publication primarily catering to web developers and web designers worldwide. Launched in 2006 by Sven Lennartz and Vitaly Friedman, both then part of the German-based Smashing Media AG, the magazine focuses on providing resources and insights to the web development community. In 2012, the magazine expanded its offerings by organizing web design conferences across Europe and North America. These events, known as SmashingConf, were initiated by Vitaly Friedman and Marc Thiele and provide a platform for practitioners to learn, interact, and network. Several sources have acknowledged Smashing Magazine's influence within the web development world. The Huffington Post ranks it as a leading platform for web developers to find job opportunities. Conferences Smashing Magazine hosts four annual conferences that take place in New York City, San Francisco, Barcelona, and Freiburg. Each conference consists of two-day, single-track talks and worksho ...

Cross-platform Free Software
Within computing, cross-platform software (also called multi-platform software, platform-agnostic software, or platform-independent software) is computer software that is designed to work in several computing platforms. Some cross-platform software requires a separate build for each platform, but some can be directly run on any platform without special preparation, being written in an interpreted language or compiled to portable bytecode for which the interpreters or run-time packages are common or standard components of all supported platforms. For example, a cross-platform application may run on Linux, macOS and Microsoft Windows. Cross-platform software may run on many platforms, or as few as two. Some frameworks for cross-platform development are Codename One, ArkUI-X, Kivy, Qt, GTK, Flutter, NativeScript, Xamarin, Apache Cordova, Ionic, and React Native. Platforms ''Platform'' can refer to the type of processor (CPU) or other hardware on which an operating syste ...

Graphical User Interface Testing
In software engineering, graphical user interface testing is the process of software testing, testing a product's graphical user interface (GUI) to ensure it meets its specifications. This is normally done through the use of a variety of test cases. Test case generation To generate a set of test cases, test designers attempt to cover all the functionality of the system and fully exercise the GUI itself. The difficulty in accomplishing this task is twofold: to deal with domain size and sequences. In addition, the tester faces more difficulty when they have to do regression testing. Unlike a command line interface, CLI (command-line interface) system, a GUI may have additional operations that need to be tested. A relatively small program such as Microsoft WordPad has 325 possible GUI operations.Atif M. Memon, Martha E. Pollack and Mary Lou Soffa. Using a Goal-driven Approach to Generate Test Cases for GUIs. Given-When-Then
Given-When-Then (GWT) is a semi-structured way to write down test cases. They can either be tested manually or automated as browser tests with tools like Selenium and Cucumber. It derives its name from the three clauses used, which start with the words given, when and then. Given describes the preconditions and initial state before the start of a test and allows for any pre-test setup that may occur. When describes actions taken by a user during a test. Then describes the outcome resulting from actions taken in the when clause. The Given-When-Then was proposed by Dan North in 2006, as part of behavior-driven development. Example A Given-When-Then test case for a hypothetical inventory software could be structured as follows: GIVEN that the inventory contains 10 units of steel AND the inventory contains 30 units of copper WHEN we consume 2 units of steel AND we consume 10 units of copper AND we purchase 5 units of steel THEN the inventory should contain 13 units of ...

Playwright (software)
Playwright is an open-source automation library for browser testing and web scraping developed by Microsoft and launched on 31 January 2020, which has since become popular among programmers and web developers. Playwright provides the ability to automate browser tasks in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit with a single API. This allows developers to create reliable end-to-end tests that are capable of running in non-headless mode, as well as in headless mode for automation. Playwright supports programming languages like JavaScript, Python, C# and Java, though its main API was originally written in Node.js. It supports all modern web features including network interception and multiple browser contexts and provides automatic waiting, which reduces the flakiness of tests. @playwright/test @playwright/test is a test runner with Jest-like assertions developed and maintained by the Playwright team that is built on top of the Playwright API. This test runner is tightly integrated with Play ...

Selenium (software)
Selenium is an open source umbrella project for a range of tools and libraries aimed at supporting browser automation. It provides a playback tool for authoring functional tests across most modern web browsers, without the need to learn a test scripting language (Selenium IDE). It also provides a test domain-specific language (Selenese) to write tests in a number of popular programming languages, including JavaScript ( Node.js), C#, Groovy, Java, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby and Scala. Selenium runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS. It is open-source software released under the Apache License 2.0. Selenium is an open-source automation framework for web applications, enabling testers and developers to automate browser interactions and perform functional testing. With versatile tools like WebDriver, Selenium supports various programming languages and facilitates cross-browser testing, making it a go-to choice for efficient and scalable web automation. History Selenium was originally ...
