Cynthia Block
Cynthia Marie Block is a Canadian politician and the current mayor of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Block was elected in the 2024 Saskatchewan municipal elections and is the city's 29th mayor. Block is the first woman to be elected mayor of Saskatoon. Before politics Block was raised in rural Saskatchewan, near Blackstrap Lake. Block's father served as reeve of the local rural municipality. Prior to entering politics, Block worked as a journalist and a news anchor for CTV News Saskatoon. Political career Block's first political bid came in the 2015 federal election, when she stood for the Liberal Party in the riding of Saskatoon—University. During the campaign, she spoke to the need for more collaborative relationships between governments at the federal and provincial levels. Block finished third in the race. Bradley Ryan Trost (born May 15, 1974) is a former Canadian politician who served as a Conservative Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of Canada, representing the ridings of Saskatoon—Humboldt from 2004 to 2015 and Saskatoon—University from 2015 to 2019. He was a candidate in the 2017 Conservative Party of Canada leadership election, finishing fourth. Trost was known for his support of socially conservative positions. CKOM
CKOM is a radio station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada broadcasting on 650 kHz. Its format is news/ talk. It shares studio space with sister stations CFMC-FM and CJDJ-FM at 715 Saskatchewan Crescent West, also the home of Rawlco Radio's Corporate Offices. History CKOM began broadcasting on 1340 kHz on June 8, 1951 with an output of 250 watts and its offices were based out of the historic Empire Hotel. By 1960, CKOM was broadcasting full-time on the AM frequency of 1250 kHz with an increase in power to 10,000 watts. During the earlier part of the decade, the station became a Top 40 station. In early August 1985, the station was sold to Rawlco Communications and changed frequencies to 650 kHz. At the time, the station continued to air in its Top 40 format.
