Cwmavon RFC
Cwmavon Rugby Football Club also known as Cwmafan Rugby Football Club () is a rugby union club based in Cwmavon, Wales. Cwmavon RFC is a member club of the Welsh Rugby Union, and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. The club badge depicts a shield split in half vertically with the left side containing the Lamb of God rampant and the right side a red dragon rampant. A banner underneath bears the club name. Cwmavon RFC has seen several past players selected to represent the Wales national team; although none of them did so while playing with the club having moved on to more senior teams. Cwmavon, Neath Port Talbot
Cwmafan (), also known as Cwmavon, is a large village and community in the Afan valley in Wales, lying within Neath Port Talbot County Borough. It had a population of 6,538 in 2011, increasing slightly to 5,615 at the 2011 Census. Cwmafan is known for having a high percentage of Welsh speakers. In many ways it is a suburb of the nearby town of Port Talbot which is less than to the south. The literal translation of ''Cwmafan'' from Welsh to English is complex, Cwm means valley with Afan as the name of the river flowing through, hence the village residing within the Afan Valley. It could be a version of Afon which means river, so literally the "River Valley", this is common in Wales and the UK with many rivers being called Afon or Avon. The Wales national rugby union team () represents the Welsh Rugby Union in men's international rugby union. Dan Edwards (rugby Union)
Daniel Edwards (born 7 May 2003) is a Welsh rugby union fly-half who plays for the Ospreys in the United Rugby Championship. Club career He began his career at Cwmafan RFC, he also played for Swansea Valley U15 team in the Dewar Shield. He joined the Ospreys in 2021, while at the URC side he also went and played for Aberavon RFC and Swansea RFC. At the end of the 2021-22 season at Aberavon he won the Young Player of the Year award as well as the gong for the Most Improved Player. After being named on the bench against Glasgow Warriors in Round 4 of the URC but not featuring, Edwards went on the make his debut in Round 6 scoring a try against the Scarlets. Emlyn Davies
Emlyn Price Davies (15 January 1922 – 6 September 2016) was a Welsh international rugby union prop who played club rugby for Swansea and Aberavon and county rugby for Glamorgan. He was capped for Wales national rugby union team on two occasions. Davies played for a wide variety of club teams, but it was while he was with Aberavon that he was selected to play for Wales against the touring, 1947 Australian team. Trevor Lloyd (rugby Union)
Trevor Lloyd (5 September 1924 – 5 October 2015) was a international rugby union player. Lloyd hailed from Taibach a district in Port Talbot, where he started playing club rugby with the Aberavon Quins RFC, he made his debut for Wales on 14 March 1953 versus Ireland and was selected for the 1955 British Lions tour to South Africa. He also played club rugby for Maesteg RFC, captaining the team for three seasons, and coached the senior club from 1956 to 1959. Lloyd finished his playing career at home town club Aberavon Harlequins where during the 1955/56 season and directly after touring with the Lions, he captained the side into their inaugural season as a club of the Welsh Rugby Union. Lloyd died on 5 October 2015. Walter Vickery
Walter Vickery (25 October 1909 - 7 April 2000) was an international rugby union back row who represented Wales and played club rugby for Aberavon. His father, George Vickery, also played for Aberavon and was also an international player, but he was capped for England. Personal history Vickery was born in Port Talbot, Wales in 1909. He had one daughter Rita, who had two children, Richard and Robert. Rugby career Vickery joined Aberavon in 1928, and in 1931 was part of the joint Aberavon / Neath team that faced the 1931 touring South African team. The Welsh club team was narrowly beaten when the South African's scored a late controversial try. Vickery would again face an international touring team in 1935, when another joint Aberavon / Neath team was chosen to play against the touring All Blacks.
