Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus
The Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus (CCPC) is a progressive political organization in the Greater Cleveland area, headquartered in Lakewood, Ohio. Activities Founding and early activism In July 2016, around the time of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, a group of supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders' unsuccessful 2016 presidential campaign founded the Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus on Cleveland's west side. According to CCPC co-founder and political director Steve Holecko, "When we realized Bernie would fall short, we decided to stay together. Cuyahoga County didn't have an organization with the word 'progressive' in it, so we formed the Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus." In the 2016 presidential campaign, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders sought the Democratic Party's nomination in a field of six major candidates and was the runner up with 46% of the pledged delegates behind former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who won the contest with 54%. Sanders, the junior United States senator and former Representative from Vermont, began with an informal announcement on April 30, 2015, and a formal announcement that he planned to seek the Democratic Party's nomination for President of the United States on May 26, 2015, in Burlington, Vermont. Bride Rose Sweeney is a three-term Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives for Western Cuyahoga County, serving as Ranking Member of the Ohio House Finance Committee and the lead Democratic sponsor of the bipartisan Fair School Funding Plan that became law on July 1, 2021. Jeffrey D. Johnson (born April 10, 1958) is an American politician and attorney who served as a member of Cleveland City Council for Ward 10 from 2014 to 2018. Johnson served as councilman for Ward 8 from 1984 to 1990 and as a member of the Ohio Senate from 1990 to 1998.
