Cuvette-Ouest Region
Cuvette-Ouest (or Western Cuvette) is a department of the Republic of the Congo in the western part of the country. Cuvette-Ouest is the least populated department in the country. It borders the departments of Cuvette, Sangha, and Plateaux, and internationally, Gabon. The capital is Ewo. Principal cities and towns include Kelle. Cuvette-Ouest has been the site of several outbreaks of the Ebola virus. The Republic of the Congo is divided into 15 departments since the adoption of the corresponding laws in October 2024. These departments replaced former regions (''régions'', singular ''région'') in 2002: These regions are subdivided into more than Districts of the Republic of the Congo, 100 districts and Communes of the Republic of the Congo, 16 communes; which are further subdivided into urban communities (communautés urbaines) and rural communities (communautés rurales); which are further subdivided into quarters or neighborhoods (quartiers) and villages.
