Curver Thoroddsen is an Icelandic artist/musician, born in 1976. He is a member of the duo Ghostigital along with Einar Örn Benediktsson, a former member of The Sugarcubes. He created the remix of Sigur Rós's 18 sekúndur fyrir sólarupprás, renamed "180 sekúndur fyrir sólarupprás" on their 1998 remix album Von brigði. He resides in Reykjavik. Einar Örn Benediktsson
Einar Örn Benediktsson (born 29 October 1962), often billed as Einar Örn, is an Icelandic popular music singer and trumpet player. He was a member of the Sugarcubes. He served as a member of the Reykjavík City Council between 2010 and 2014. With Björk and the Sugarcubes Einar has been described as the first punk in Iceland. He claims he became interested in punk rock after reading about Johnny Rotten vomiting on an aeroplane and listening to John Peel on his mother's car radio. Einar spent the summer of 1977 in London, where his father worked. Through this, he was able to make contacts enabling the Reykjavík arts festival to book The Clash in 1980. In the early 1980s, Einar was the lead singer of the short-lived punk group Purrkur Pillnikk. Following Purrkur Pillnikk's demise in 1983, Einar became a member of the anarcho-punk Kukl along with the already notable Icelandic singer Björk Guðmundsdóttir. Von Brigði
''Von brigði'' is a remix album of Icelandic band Sigur Rós' first album, ''Von''. It was released in 1998 on Smekkleysa Records, and continues to be available only in Iceland or through the band's online store. An LP containing four tracks from the album was also released, although only 100 copies of this green-colored edition were made. ''Von brigðis title is a play on words Word play or wordplay (also: play-on-words) is a literary technique and a form of wit in which words used become the main subject of the work, primarily for the purpose of intended effect or amusement. Examples of word play include puns, phone .... The word "Vonbrigði" means "disappointment", but split in two it translates as "variations on Von", "brigði" meaning "variation". A full translation into English would result in "hope variation". The last song on the album is a song by Sigur Rós which the band meant to go on ''Von'', but couldn't be finished in time. The Sugarcubes
The Sugarcubes () were an Icelandic alternative rock band from Reykjavík formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1992. For most of their career, the band consisted of Björk Guðmundsdóttir (vocals, keyboards), Einar Örn Benediktsson (vocals, trumpet), Þór Eldon (guitar), Bragi Ólafsson (bass), Margrét "Magga" Örnólfsdóttir (keyboards) and Sigtryggur Baldursson (drums). Previous members included Friðrik Erlingsson (guitar) and Einar Melax (keyboards). The Sugarcubes' debut album, '' Life's Too Good'' (1988), was an unexpected international success, and produced their signature song "Birthday". It is credited as the first Icelandic album to have a worldwide impact and influenced Icelandic popular music. ''Von'' (, ''Hope'') is the debut studio album by Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, released on 14 June 1997 by Smekkleysa Records. Production lasted over two years, and the result sounded significantly different from the original recordings. The band considered scrapping the final result, but decided not as it would have made the process too long. In exchange for recording time, Sigur Rós painted the studio they recorded in. ''Von'' was originally released in Iceland to positive reviews from critics, but went relatively unnoticed abroad. In the first year following its release, ''Von'' sold only 313 copies in Iceland. Following the band's popular international releases ''Ágætis byrjun'' and '' ( )'', it was re-released in the United Kingdom in 2004, and in the United States a month later. The Icelandic Naming Committee (; pronounced )—also known in English as the Personal Names Committee—maintains an official register of approved Icelandic given names and governs the introduction of new given names into Icelandic culture. Composition and mission The Naming Committee was established in 1991 to determine whether new given names not previously used in Iceland are suitable for integration into the country's language and culture.
