Amelita Galli-Curci
Amelita Galli-Curci (18 November 1882 – 26 November 1963) was an Italian coloratura soprano. She was one of the most popular operatic singers of the 20th century, with her recordings selling in large numbers. Early life She was born as Amelita Galli into an upper-middle-class Italian family of Spanish heritage in Milan, where she studied piano at the Milan Conservatory, winning a gold medal for piano performance, and at the age of 16 was offered a professorship. She was inspired to sing by her grandmother. Operatic composer Pietro Mascagni also encouraged Galli-Curci's singing ambitions. By her own choice, Galli-Curci's voice was largely self-trained at the beginning of her career. She honed her technique by listening to other sopranos, reading old singing-method books, and doing piano exercises with her voice instead of using a keyboard. Federico "Freddy" Curci (born October 30, 1962) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He was lead vocalist for the rock band Sheriff and later founded and became frontman for the band Alias, a position he retains to this day. Curci provided lead vocals on the Sheriff song " When I'm with You", which reached the number one spot in 1989, and the Alias power ballad " More Than Words Can Say", which reached the number two spot in 1990 on the ''Billboard'' charts. Fran Curci (born June 11, 1938) is a former American football player and coach. He was an All-American quarterback at the University of Miami in 1959. He served as head coach at the University of Tampa from 1968 to 1970, the University of Miami from 1971 to 1972 and the University of Kentucky from 1973 to 1981, compiling a career college football coaching record of 81–70–2. Coaching career Curci led the University of Tampa Spartans to a 25–6 record in three seasons (1968–1970). After his team defeated the Miami Hurricanes at the Orange Bowl in 1970, and Tampa finished that season 10–1, he was hired by the University of Miami. Curci's record at Miami was 9–13. Galli-Curci Theatre
The Galli-Curci Theatre is located on Main Street ( state highway NY 30) in Margaretville, New York, United States. It is a brick building erected in the 1920s, now primarily used as a store, although some of the original theater remains. It was named after opera singer Amelita Galli-Curci, who summered at her historic country estate near Margaretville from 1922-1937 and sang at its opening night. It was built by local entrepreneur Clarke Sanford to house two pioneering businesses in the region, a car dealership and silent movie theater and offices of the ''Catskill Mountain News''. Under later owners, it continued to show movies until 1985. It was modified afterwards for reuse as an antique store, but has remained mostly intact from its period of cinematic use. Carlo Maria Curci (1810 in Naples – June 8, 1891 in Florence) was an Italian theologian from Naples. Biography Curci joined the Society of Jesus in 1826, and was devoted to the education and care of the poor and prisoners. Curci became one of the first editors of the Jesuit periodical, '' La Civiltà Cattolica''. He later wrote for Vincenzo Gioberti, Antonio Rosmini-Serbati and other advocates for reform; Cerci wrote a preface to Gioberti's ''Primato'' (1843), but dissented from his ''Prolegomena''. In the 1870s, Curci delivered a course on Christian philosophy in Florence and published several Scriptural works. In his edition of the New Testament, Curci harshly criticized Italian clergy for neglecting to study Scripture. In the meantime, he began to attack the Vatican for its role in politics. Amelita Galli-Curci Estate, also known as Sul Monte, is a historic country estate located near Fleischmanns, New York, straddling the boundaries of Delaware County and Ulster County, New York. The architect Harrie T. Lindeberg (1879–1959) designed it as a country home for Italian operatic soprano Amelita Galli-Curci (1882–1963). The estate has seven contributing buildings and two contributing structures. The main house, built in 1922, is large and rambling, two-stories high, with multiple wings that wrap around a central courtyard. The structure is wood-frame construction sitting on a concrete foundation, its walls clad in variegated stone, stucco and wood, and its steeply-pitched roof clad with cedar shingles. Ofelia Giudicissi Curci (1934–1981) was an Italian poet and archeologist. Life She was an Arbëresh from Pallagorio, a settlement near Crotone, in Calabria, southern Italy on 11 May 1934. She published her first poetry in a volume called ''Pallagorio'' (published by Arti Grafiche Pedanesi, Rome) in 1964. Fifteen years after she died (13 September 1981), her husband and sons published a collection of her poetry together with a photo album.
