The Cumbria Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner is the police, fire and crime commissioner, an elected official tasked with setting out the way crime is tackled by Cumbria Police in the English ceremonial county of Cumbria. The post was created in November 2012, as Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the Cumbria Police Authority. Peter McCall (police Commissioner)
Colonel Peter Joseph McCall is a British conservative politician and former British Army officer. He was elected in 2016 as the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner and re-elected in 2021. In April 2023 he became the Cumbria Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner following the abolition of Cumbria County Council. Early life and education McCall was educated at The Nelson Thomlinson School, a comprehensive school in Wigton, Cumbria. He became head boy of his school. Police Reform And Social Responsibility Act 2011
The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 (c. 13) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It transfers the control of police forces from police authorities to elected Police and Crime Commissioners. The first police commissioner elections were held in November 2012. The next elections took place in May 2016 and will subsequently take place every four years. The Act repeals the provisions in the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 which prohibit protests near Parliament Square, and instead restricts certain "prohibited activities" in Parliament Square garden and the adjoining footways. The police have used these powers to confiscate pizza boxes, tarpaulin and umbrellas from protesters in Parliament Square. Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service is the statutory fire and rescue service for the Shire county of Cumbria, England. Since 2012, the headquarters for the service's 38 fire stations are at Penrith next to the headquarters of Cumbria Constabulary. Richard Rhodes (born 20 April 1942) is a British politician and former teacher. From 2012 to 2016, he was the Conservative Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner. Early life and education Rhodes was born on 20 April 1942. He was educated at Rossall School, a private school in Rossall, Lancashire. He studied at St John's College, Durham, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Durham in 1963. Political career On 15 November 2012, Rhodes was elected the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria Constabulary; he stood as the Conservative Party candidate.
