Karen Sue "Casse" Culver (March 7, 1944 – December 4, 2019) was an American folk singer and songwriter in the women's music genre. Early life and education Culver was born in Bethesda, Maryland, the daughter of Ronald H. Culver and Thyra Marjorie Ferguson Culver. Her father was an electrical engineer and her mother was a beautician. She attended St. Mary's College of Maryland. In the 1980s, she took a course of Bible study at the Way of Faith Christian Institute in Virginia. Her older brother Donald M. Culver was president of the Gay Restaurant Owners of Washington. Career Culver began singing and playing guitar as a busker in the late 1960s. She had a record contract in 1971, and recorded an unreleased album. Culver played her "very personal, folk-sounding music" at women's music festivals, and toured nationally in the 1970s. Chet Culver
Chester John Culver (born January 25, 1966) is an American politician who served from 2007 through 2011 as the 41st governor of Iowa. A member of the Democratic Party, he had previously served as the 29th Secretary of State of Iowa from 1999 to 2007. He was elected governor in the 2006 Iowa gubernatorial election and ran unsuccessfully for reelection in 2010, losing to Terry Branstad. He was also elected as the federal Liaison for the Democratic Governors Association, serving from 2008 to 2009. He founded the Chet Culver Group, an energy sector consulting firm, in 2011 after he left public office. As of , he is the most recent Governor of Iowa from the Democratic Party. Ellsworth Culver (April 14, 1927 – August 15, 2005) was an American humanitarian and aid worker, and co-founder of Mercy Corps International. He has been publicly accused of sexual abuse by his daughter. Early life and education Ellsworth Culver was born in Seattle, Washington, on April 14, 1927. Culver spent his early childhood in China. He was educated at Asbury College in Kentucky. Career Culver lived and taught in pre-Castro Cuba, and subsequently would work in over 90 countries. Frank Ward Culver (May 28, 1897 – December 12, 1955) was an American college football player and attorney. He played football for the University of Michigan in 1917 and 1919 and was selected as an All-American at the guard position in 1917. Early years Culver was born in Detroit in 1897 and graduated from Detroit Central High School. His father, Charles Culver, was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives starting in 1914. University of Michigan Culver attended the University of Michigan and played for the Michigan Wolverines under Fielding H. Yost in 1917 and 1919. Franklin Zham Culver (April 24, 1897 – January 13, 1969) was an American professional football player who played three seasons in the National Football League (NFL), with the Buffalo All-Americans, Rochester Jeffersons, Buffalo Bisons and the Canton Bulldogs. He played from the 1923 season through the 1925 season. Culver's Bisons teammate, Jim Ailinger called Culver "a pretty damn good center" in an interview before his death on March 27, 2001. Harry Hazel Culver (January 22, 1880 – August 17, 1946) was a real estate developer and promoter. He was born in Milford, Nebraska, the middle child of five of Jacob H. and Ada L. (Davison) Culver, who lived on a farm. At age 18, he enlisted in the Spanish–American War and served as a corporal and sergeant. After attending liberal arts college Doane College for a year, Culver studied business at the University of Nebraska for 3 years. From 1901 to about 1904, he worked in the Philippines in the mercantile business and as a reporter for the ''Manila Times'' and special customs agent. Henry Harrison Culver (August 9, 1840 – September 27, 1897) was an American businessman and philanthropist. He is best known for founding the Culver Academies. Early life Henry Harrison Culver was born near London, Ohio on August 9, 1840. Career Culver started a cooking range company with two of his brothers, Walter and Licius, which they incorporated in 1881 as the Wrought Iron Range Company in St. Louis. The company was very successful and Culver amassed a substantial fortune. After becoming ill, he retired in 1883 to the north shore of Lake Maxinkuckee, close to his wife's childhood home.
