Alvan Cullom
Alvan Cullom (September 4, 1797 – July 20, 1877) was an American politician that represented Tennessee's 4th district in the United States House of Representatives. Biography Cullom was born in Monticello, Kentucky, on September 4, 1797. He received a liberal schooling, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1823, and commenced practice in Monroe, Overton County, Tennessee. He married Susan Jones and they had seven children. Career Cullom was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1835 and 1836. He was elected as a Democrat to the 28th and 29th Congresses. He served from March 4, 1843, until March 3, 1847. After resuming the practice of law, Cullom served as the circuit judge of the fourth judicial circuit of Tennessee from 1850 to 1852. He was a member of the peace convention in 1861 held in Washington, D.C., in an effort to prevent the impending war. He was the brother of William Cullom and uncle of Shelby Moore Cullom. Jim Cullom
James Henry "Truck" Cullom (November 5, 1925 – March 4, 1998) was an American football guard in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Yanks. Cullom served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After the war, he played college football at the University of California, where he was a three-year lineman and placekicker from 1947–49, playing on two of coach Pappy Waldorf's Rose Bowl teams. Cullom was a first-team All-Coast tackle in 1949, and also played on Cal's rugby team. Cullom was drafted in the 24th round of the 1949 NFL draft and again in the seventeenth round of the 1950 NFL draft by the Washington Redskins. After one season playing for the New York Yanks, he was recalled by the Marines and was wounded in the Korean War. Philip Hart Cullom (born July 17, 1957) is a retired vice admiral in the United States Navy. Biography Cullom is a native of Flossmoor, Illinois. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1988. Career Cullom graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1979. His assignments at sea have included serving aboard the , the , the , the and as commanding officer of the . Ashore, Cullom's assignments include serving with the Office of Management and Budget, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the United States National Security Council and the Idaho National Laboratory. Shelby Cullom Davis (April 1, 1909 – May 26, 1994) was an American businessman, investor, and philanthropist. In 1947, he founded Shelby Cullom Davis & Company, which became a leading investment firm. He later served as U.S. ambassador to Switzerland under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Early life and education Davis was born April 1, 1909, in Peoria, Illinois. He attended Lawrenceville School in Lawrence Township, New Jersey, where he graduated in 1926, and matriculated to Princeton University, where he graduated in 1930. William Cullom (June 4, 1810 – December 6, 1896) was an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives. Biography Cullom was born on June 4, 1810, near Monticello, Kentucky, in Wayne County. He attended the public schools and studied law in Lexington, Kentucky. He was admitted to the bar, and he practiced in the courts of Kentucky and Tennessee. He moved to Carthage, Tennessee and served as a member of the Tennessee State Senate from 1843 to 1847.
