Okavango River
The Okavango River (formerly spelt Okovango or Okovanggo), is a river in southwest Africa. It is known by this name in Botswana, and as Cubango in Angola, and Kavango in Namibia. It is the fourth-longest river system in southern Africa, running southeastward for . It begins at an elevation of in the sandy highlands of Angola. Farther south, it forms part of the border between Angola and Namibia, and then flows into Botswana. The Okavango does not have an outlet to the sea. Instead, it discharges into the Okavango Delta or Okavango Alluvial Fan, in an endorheic basin in the Kalahari Desert. The Cuito River is a major tributary. Flow The Cubango and Cuito Rivers are the principal tributaries of the Okavango Delta, and affect its health. Cubango Province
Cubango is a Provinces of Angola, province of Angola. It was created on 5 September 2024 from the western part of Cuando Cubango Province. Its capital is Menongue. Geography and climate Cubango borders the Angolan provinces of Cunene Province, Cunene to the west, Huíla Province, Huíla to the northwest, Bié Province, Bié to the north, Moxico Province, Moxico to the northeast, and Cuando Province, Cuando to the east. It also borders the Namibian regions of Kavango East, Kavango West, and Ohangwena Region, Ohangwena to the southeast, south, and southwest respectively. The province is drained by the Cubango River, which forms most of the province's border with Namibia, and its tributary the Cuito River forms much of the province's border with Cuando. The northern part of Cubango belongs to the dry miombo woodlands ecoregion, while the south falls in the Zambezian Baikiaea woodlands, Zambezian ''Baikiaea'' woodlands ecoregion. The Apostolic Prefecture of Lower Congo (or Apostolic Prefecture of Portuguese Congo) was a Roman Catholic pre-diocesan missionary jurisdiction in Central Africa's Congo Basin. History The Apostolic Prefecture of Lower Congo, an exempt jurisdiction (i.e. directly subject to the Holy See), was established in 1640 on colonial territory split off from the then Roman Catholic Diocese of São Paulo de Loanda in then Portuguese Congo.
