The Cuba national Baseball5 team represents Cuba in international Baseball5 competitions. They are the current World and Pan American Champions. History Baseball5 was inspired by similar games that have been played on the streets in Latin America and elsewhere for decades, such as "cuatro esquinas" (''four corners'') in Cuba. Cuba, alongside Venezuela national Baseball5 team, Venezuela, were invited by the World Baseball Softball Confederation to represent WBSC Americas in the 2022 Baseball5 World Cup, held in Mexico City. The Cuban team finished the tournament undefeated and won the final against Japan national Baseball5 team, Japan 2 matches to 0. Briandy Molina was honored with the Outstanding Male Player Award and included in the All Star Team of the tournament. Cuba won the 2024 Baseball5 Pan American Championship held in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Baseball5 In The Americas
Baseball5 (B5 or BB5) is a simplified variation of baseball and softball which is governed at the international level alongside those sports by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). The game revolves around two teams of five players taking turns playing offense and defense, with each of the offensive team's players taking turns hitting a small rubber ball with their bare hands into the field of play (which is a -square), and then running counterclockwise around four bases ( apart) laid out in a square shape to score a run, while the defensive team tries to eliminate ("get out") offensive players before they complete their trip around the bases to prevent them from scoring. The Baseball5 Pan American Championship is the main Baseball5 tournament in the Americas, governed by WBSC Americas. The top three teams qualify to the Baseball5 World Cup. The 2024 Baseball5 World Cup was the second edition of the Baseball5 World Cup, the Mixed gender sport, mixed-gender Baseball5 (B5) world championship organized by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). It was held in Hong Kong from 7 to 12 October 2024. Twelve teams took part. The tournament was won by Cuba national Baseball5 team, Cuba in their second straight Baseball5 World Cup title. The Mexico national Baseball5 team represents Mexico in international Baseball5 competitions. History Mexico qualified as hosts of the inaugural Baseball5 World Cup, where they finished fifth with a 4–4 record. The team participated in the historic first game of tournament, defeating Lithuania 5–3 and 4–2. Mexico finished the tournament fifth with a 4–4 record. The Baseball Federation of Cuba (, FCB) is the governing body of the sport of baseball in Cuba. History The Baseball Federation of Cuba was established in 1938. The professional Cuban League was dismantled in 1961, following the Cuban Revolution. It was replaced by the amateur Cuban baseball league system, administered by the Baseball Federation of Cuba. The Cuban National Series has operated as the primary baseball league in Cuba since then. In late 2018, an agreement was reached between Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), and the Baseball Federation of Cuba. The agreement created a legal path for Cuban baseball players to sign with MLB teams without having to defect. However, the agreement was ruled illegal and was negated in April 2019. The Japan national Baseball5 team represents Japan in international Baseball5 competitions. History In January 2019, the Baseball Federation of Japan held a baseball5 seminar in Tokyo, with the goal of promoting the sport in Japan, specially among the kids, youth and high school and university students. Japan participated in the inaugural Baseball5 Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, where the team finished second after losing to Chinese Taipei 1 match to 2.
