Crystal Esprit
''Crystal Esprit'' is a cruise ship previously operated by Crystal Cruises. Built by Flender Werft in Lübeck, Germany, she was laid down in 1988 and floated out as ''Lady Diana'' in 1989. She was completed in December 1991 as ''Aurora I.'' She and sister ship ''Aurora II'' were purchased by Star Cruises in 1994. ''Aurora I'' was renamed ''Megastar Taurus'' and served from 1994 until being laid up in 2008. In July 2015, Crystal Cruises announced that she would join its fleet as ''Crystal Esprit'', and on December 20, 2015, she was rechristened at Eden Island Marina in Mahé, Seychelles, by Lady Gaenor Anne Meakes (fiancée of yachtsman Mark Richards). In September 2021, Crystal announced that they had sold the all-suite ship following a review of its post-pandemic offering. } Crystal Cruises is a cruise line now headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois, USA. It was founded in 1988 by Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and sold to Hong Kong-headquartered conglomerate Genting Hong Kong in 2015. Following insolvency in 2022, the Crystal Cruises brand and two cruise ships were bought by A&K Travel Group, to recommence operations in 2023. The new company has announced major refurbishments and enhancements for the two award-winning ships in a Fincantieri shipyard in Trieste, Italy including increasing the number of butler suites and reducing guest capacity, with plans to resume service in June 2023 with shore excursions curated by Abercrombie & Kent. Mark Richards is an Australian sailor and boatbuilder, known for his achievements as the long-time skipper of Wild Oats XI, 9 times line honours winner of the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht race. In 1995, Richards founded Palm Beach Motor Yachts in Australia, which was acquired by Grand Banks Yachts in 2014. Richards is currently CEO of Grand Banks as a result of the acquisition. Mahé, Seychelles
Mahé is the largest island of Seychelles, with an area of , lying in the northeast of the Seychellean nation in the Somali Sea part of the Indian Ocean. The population of Mahé was 77,000, as of the 2010 census. It contains the capital city of Victoria and accommodates 86% of the country's total population. Azipod
Azipod is a trademark azimuth thruster pod design, a marine propulsion unit consisting of a fixed pitch propeller mounted on a steerable gondola ("pod") containing the electric motor driving the propeller, allowing ships to be more maneuverable. They were developed in Finland jointly by the shipbuilding company Masa-Yards and the ABB Group, which produces them. Although "Azipod" is a registered brand name, it is sometimes used incorrectly as a generic trademark for podded propulsion units manufactured by other companies.
