''Cruel Destiny'' (Spanish: ''Cruel destino'') is a 1944 Mexican musical drama film directed by Juan Orol and starring María Antonieta Pons, Juan José Martínez Casado and Florencio Castelló. Riera p.90 The film's sets were designed by the art director Ramón Rodríguez Granada. It is part of the tradition of Rumberas films, popular during the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema. Synopsis Since childhood Alice and Armando have dreamed of a future together. However when they reach adulthood he objects to her becoming a dancer in a cabaret, leading her to fall into the clutches of another man. Juan Orol
Juan Rogelio García García (August 4, 1897 – May 26, 1988), better known as Juan Orol, was a Spanish-born Mexican actor, film producer, director and screenwriter. Orol was a pioneer of the Mexican cinema's first talkies and one of the main promoters of the Rumberas film in the ''Golden Age of Mexican cinema''. His films have been described as cult films. Biography Early life Juan Rogelio García García was born on August 4, 1897, in the parish of Santiso, in the town of Lalín, Lalin in Pontevedra, Spain. His father was a commander of the Spanish armed forces. His mother, a woman of peasant origin, was a single mother. Later, she married a man who didn't want to take care of another man's son, so she sent Orol to Cuba to live with a friend. In Cuba, Orol lived in the low neighborhoods, known in Cuba as "solares". Gilberto González (1906 - 21 March 1954) was a Mexican actor. He appeared in more than ninety films from 1933 to 1954. Biography Gilberto González was born in 1906 in México City, México. After several attempts, in 1933 he found a spot as an extra in the film Su última canción. In his third film (Janitzio (1935)) he gets the antagonistic role, which made life impossible for the protagonist, played by Emilio “Indio” Fernández.
