Kathryn Williams
Kathryn Williams (born 15 February 1974, Liverpool, England) is an English singer-songwriter who to date has released 14 studio albums, written and arranged for a multitude of artists, and was nominated for the 2000 Mercury Music Prize. Williams released her first album, '' Dog Leap Stairs'', on her own Caw Records label in 1999 with a budget of £80. The follow-up, '' Little Black Numbers'', garnered a Mercury Prize nomination in 2000, bringing her to the attention of a wider public. Williams has collaborated and recorded with artists including Chris Difford, Ted Barnes, Thea Gilmore, John Martyn, Joel Salakula, Tobias Froberg, Ed Harcourt, James Yorkston, Marry Waterson, Boo Hewerdine, and Paul Smith. One Little Independent Records (formerly One Little Indian Records) is an English independent record label. ''Hypoxia'' is Kathryn Williams 12th album and was released by One Little Indian on 15 June 2015. The songs were initially conceived as a result of a 2013 writing commission from New Writing North in conjunction with the Durham Book Festival's 50th anniversary celebration of the publication of Sylvia Plath's ' The Bell Jar' novel. Kathryn performed five songs at the festival and completed writing the project whilst touring her 'Crown Electric' release. James Yorkston (born James Patrick Yorkston Wright; 21 December 1971) is a Scottish folk musician, singer-songwriter and author from the village of Kingsbarns, Fife. He has been releasing music since 2001. As well as recording as a solo artist, he has released music with his backing band the Athletes, as part of the Fence Collective, and as a member of the trio Yorkston/Thorne/Khan.
