Crotalarieae
Crotalarieae is a tribe of flowering plants belonging to the family Fabaceae. It includes rooibos ''(Aspalathus linearis)'', which is harvested for sale as a tisane. Description The Crotalarieae arose 31.2 ± 3.4 million years ago (in the Oligocene). The members of this tribe consistently form a monophyly, monophyletic clade in molecular phylogenetics, molecular phylogenetic analyses. The tribe does not currently have a node-based definition and no morphological synapomorphy, synapomorphies have been identified. Several genera in the tribe produce Quinolizidine#Quinolizidine alkaloids, quinolizidine alkaloids or macrocyclic pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Genera Crotalarieae comprises the following genera: * ''Aspalathus'' L. * ''Bolusia'' Benth. * ''Calobota'' Eckl. & Zeyh. * ''Crotalaria'' L. * ''Euchlora'' Eckl. & Zeyh. * ''Ezoloba'' B.-E. van Wyk & Boatwr. * ''Lebeckia'' Thunb. * ''Leobordea'' Del. * ''Listia (plant), Listia'' E. It was recently segregated from the genus '' Lotononis''. Unlike other members of the Crotalarieae, members of the genus ''Listia'' have lupinoid root nodules. The genus name of ''Listia'' is in honour of Friedrich Ludwig List (1779-1837), who was a German botanist and teacher. The genus was circumscribed by Ernst Heinrich Friedrich Meyer Ernst Heinrich Friedrich Meyer (1 January 1791 – 7 August 1858) was a German botanist and botanical historian. Rooibos
Rooibos ( ; , ), or , is a broom (shrub), broom-like member of the plant family Fabaceae that grows in South Africa's Fynbos biome. The leaves are used to make a caffeine-free herbal tea, herbal infusion that has been popular in Southern Africa for generations. Since the 2000s, rooibos has gained popularity internationally, with an earthy flavour and aroma that is similar to yerba mate or tobacco. Outside of Southern Africa, it is called bush tea, red tea, or redbush tea (predominantly in Great Britain). The name ''rooibos'' is Afrikaans deriving from , meaning . The name is protected in South Africa and has protected designation of origin status in the EU. Rooibos was formerly classified in the genus but is now thought to be part of , following Rolf Dahlgren, Dahlgren (1980). The specific name (botany), specific name of , for the plant's linear growing structure and needle-like leaves, was given by Nicolaas Laurens Burman, Burman (1759). Production and processing Roo ...

Aspalathus
''Aspalathus'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae. The yellow flowers and spiny habit of some species have suggested a resemblance to ''Ulex europaeus'', the thorny " English gorse" Accordingly, "Cape Gorse" has been proposed as a common name although the resemblance is largely superficial; for instance, gorse is thorny, whereas ''Aspalathus'' species are variously spiny or unarmed. The genus belongs to the subfamily Faboideae. There are over 270 species, mainly endemic to southwestern fynbos regions in South Africa, with over fifty occurring on the Cape Peninsula alone. The species ''Aspalathus linearis'' is commercially important, being farmed as the source of Rooibos tea. ''Aspalathus'' species generally are shrubs or sometimes shrublets. They are normally bushy, however some species can grow sprawling or upright with branches that stand on their own. The flowers of most species are plentiful in season, a rich, showy yellow very common in the Western Cape ...

Crotalaria
''Crotalaria'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family (biology), family Fabaceae (subfamily Faboideae) commonly known as rattlepods. The genus includes over 700 species of herbaceous plants and shrubs. Africa is the continent with the majority of ''Crotalaria'' species (approximately 400 species), which are mainly found in damp grassland, especially in floodplains, depressions and along edges of swamps and rivers, but also in deciduous bush land, roadsides and fields. Some species of ''Crotalaria'' are grown as ornamentals. The common name rattlepod or rattlebox is derived from the fact that the seeds become loose in the pod as they mature, and rattle when the pod is shaken. The name derives from the Ancient Greek , meaning "castanet", and is the same root as the name for the rattlesnakes (''Crotalus''). ''Crotalaria'' species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including ''Endoclita sericeus'', ''Etiella zinckenella'' and ''Utetheisa ornatrix'' ...
