Cross Valley Corridor
The Cross Valley Corridor is a proposed passenger rail service in the Central Valley (California), California Central Valley, connecting Visalia, California, Visalia, Hanford, California, Hanford, Porterville, California, Porterville, and surrounding cities to each other and California High-Speed Rail's planned Kings–Tulare Regional Station. Design Route The route is proposed to run east–west, mostly along existing tracks. These rights-of way were originally constructed in the 1870s and 1880s by the Southern Pacific Transportation Company, Southern Pacific Railroad, which founded all the cities along the corridor when it first laid tracks, with the exception of the older city of Visalia. The San Joaquin Valley Railroad is one of several short line railroad companies and is part of the Pacific Region Division of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. It operates over about of owned or leased track primarily on several lines in California's Central Valley/San Joaquin Valley around Fresno and Bakersfield. The SJVR has trackage rights over Union Pacific (formerly Southern Pacific) between Fresno, Goshen, Famoso, Bakersfield and Algoso. Farmersville is a city in the San Joaquin Valley in Tulare County, California, United States, just to the east of Visalia, California. The population was 10,588 at the 2010 census, up from 8,737 at the 2000 census. State Route 43 (SR 43) is a north–south state highway in the U.S. State of California, routed along the southern San Joaquin Valley between SR 119 southwest of Bakersfield and SR 99 in Selma. SR 43 runs roughly parallel to SR 99, connecting the towns of Shafter, Wasco, Corcoran, Hanford, and Selma. Route description The route begins southwest of Bakersfield at the SR 119 junction as Enos Lane. It travels north on Enos Lane through rural farmland and a local raceway as SR 43 quickly crosses I-5. Hanford Station
Hanford station is a train station in Hanford, California served by Amtrak. The station also services the larger city of Visalia, California, to the east. History It was built by the San Francisco and San Joaquin Valley Railroad in 1897 and is one of only three SF&SJV stations left in existence. Service by the Santa Fe Railroad ended on May 1, 1971; Amtrak service began in 1974. In the early 1990s, the city sponsored a rehabilitation of the depot that included rebuilding the former freight section and enclosing the outdoor waiting room. A wide, curving canopy was added to the trackside façade to provide travelers with better protection from the sun and rain.
