Sir Arthur Crosfield, 1st Baronet
Sir Arthur Henry Crosfield, 1st Baronet, (5 April 1865 – 22 September 1938) was a Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for Warrington from 1906 to December 1910. Background In 1907 he married Domini Elliadi who was also active in Liberal politics. Political career He was elected during the 1906 Liberal landslide gaining Warrington from the Conservative Robert Pierpont. He was re-elected in January 1910 but defeated by the Conservative Harold Smith in December 1910. He was created a baronet, of Highgate in the County of Middlesex, on 24 June 1915. He was interested in the Balkans, and wrote ''The Settlement of the Near East'', published in 1922. Business career From his parents, he inherited the business of Joseph Crosfield and Sons, soap and candle manufacturers. Domini Crosfield, Lady Crosfield (1884 – 15 January 1963), was a British Liberal Party politician and tennis player. Background Born Domini Elliadi in Lancashire, she was the daughter of Elie M. John Crosfield
John Fothergill Crosfield CBE DSc MA (22 October 1915 in Hampstead, London – 25 March 2012 in Hampstead, London), inventor and entrepreneur, was a pioneer in the application of electronics to all aspects of colour printing and the inventor of the acoustic and subsonic mines during the Second World War. Graduating with a degree in mechanical sciences from Cambridge University in 1936, Crosfield was working on electrical lifts for ASEA in Sweden when war was declared. He joined the Admiralty, where with a team of mathematicians and engineers he was charged with developing sonar, to detect midget submarines, and new types of mines. In 1947, Crosfield founded J F Crosfield Ltd. (later Crosfield Electronics Ltd.) to develop press control equipment, beginning with the Autotron, that enabled magazines to print economically in colour. Joseph Crosfield
Joseph Crosfield (5 October 1792 – 16 February 1844) was a businessman who established a soap and chemical manufacturing business in Warrington, which was in the historic county of Lancashire and is now in the ceremonial county of Cheshire. This business was to become the firm of ''Joseph Crosfield and Sons''. Early life Joseph Crosfield was born in Warrington, the fourth son of George Crosfield and his wife Ann née Key. The Crosfield family had been Quakers since the time of George Fox and this tradition was maintained by George and subsequently by Joseph. George Crosfield was a wholesale grocer in Warrington who also had interests in a sugar-refining business in Liverpool. The family moved to Lancaster in 1799 for George to develop a sugar-refining business there, while still keeping an interest in his grocery business in Warrington under the care of his assistant, Joseph Fell. Margaret Crosfield
Margaret Chorley Crosfield (7 September 1859 – 13 October 1952) was a British paleontologist and geologist. Biography Crosfield became an active member of the Geologists' Association in 1892, later becoming a council member in 1918. In 1894 she was elected to the British Association for the Advancement of Science. She was the first, due to alphabetical primacy, of eight women to be elected Fellows of the Geological Society of London, under the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act of 1919. Prior to that, in 1907, a decision was made by the Society as associates, under the condition they declared themselves as geological investigators or summitted their own original research. She also was a member of the Paleontological Society from 1907–1932. She collaborated with Gertrude Elles (1872–1960), Ethel Wood (1871–1945), and Ethel Skeat (1869–1939). Philip Crosfield
George Philip Chorley Crosfield OBE (9 September 1924 – 13 March 2013) was an eminent Anglican priest in the latter part of the 20th century. He was born on 9 September 1924 and educated at George Watson's College, Edinburgh and Selwyn College, Cambridge. After wartime service with the Royal Artillery, during which he saw action in Normandy in 1944, Germany in 1945 and was then posted to India, he was ordained in 1952 and began his career with a curacy at St David's, Pilton, Edinburgh and subsequently at St. Andrew's Church, St. Andrews, where he was also Anglican chaplain to the university. It was here that he met his wife, Susan Martin, an undergraduate who was president of the Anglican Society. William Crosfield (1838 – 17 May 1909) was a British Liberal Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Lincoln, Lincolnshire in the 25th Parliament between 1892 and 1895. Crosfield Electronics was a British electronics imaging company founded by John Crosfield (1915 - 2012) and Dennis Bent in 1947 to produce process imaging devices for the print industry.
