John Crome
John Crome (22 December 176822 April 1821), once known as Old Crome to distinguish him from his artist son John Berney Crome, was an English landscape painter of the Romantic era, one of the principal artists and founding members of the Norwich School of painters. He lived in the English city of Norwich for all his life. Most of his works are of Norfolk landscapes. Crome's work is in the collections of public art galleries, including the Tate Gallery and the Royal Academy in London, and the Castle Museum in Norwich. He produced etchings and taught art. John Berney (or Barney) Crome (1 December 1794 – 15 September 1842) was an English landscape and marine painter associated with the Norwich School of painters. He is sometimes known by the nickname 'Young Crome' to distinguish him from his father John, known as 'Old Crome'. Early life John Berney Crome was born in Norwich, Norfolk, on 8 December 1794, and christened on 14 December at St George's Church, Colegate, Norwich. He was the eldest of the seven surviving children of John Crome (1768–1821), painter, and his wife, Phoebe Berney (also known as Pheobe Barney). His father was a distinguished landscape artist and a founder of the Norwich Society of Artists. Realising his own educational deficiency, he determined his son should have a good education, and John Berney Crome attended Norwich School – the Grammar School - until he was eighteen. Louise Crome (born 6 April 1978, in Waihi, New Zealand) is a former professional squash player from New Zealand. She toured for 3 years reaching a world ranking of 22. She was a member of the New Zealand Women's Team between 2004 - 2008 and won titles in Finland, Vietnam and Welsh Opens, and second place in Mexico, Los Angeles, Toronto Opens and New Zealand Championships. In 2004, Crome won silver in the women's doubles event at the World Doubles Squash Championships, partnering Lara Petera. In 2006, Petera and Crome won bronze at the World Doubles Championships and later that year she represented New Zealand at the 2006 Commonwealth Games at Melbourne.
